HTC Desire Not getting Android 3.0 Gingerbread Until Next Year

Although Google hasn’t made any official announcement as to when Android user will see Android 3.0 Gingerbread hit devices it is rumoured Android users shouldn’t expect the next version of the operating system until sometime in 2011.

According to an article over on Fonehome by Andrew, during the Qualcomm Uplink convention in San Diego, HTC communications manager Eric Lin talked to Pocket-lint who inquired if we should expect Android 3.0 Gingerbread this year.

Lin’s response was…“I don’t think so. I don’t know what Gingerbread involves, but I would believe that we would be done with our Froyo updates before Christmas. And since Google hasn’t made any announcements as to when Gingerbread is going to come out, I’m not going to make that guess; it could be Q1 of next year”

To be honest the news isn’t that much of a surprise and as the article says as long as the promised Froyo updates to the HTC Desire, HTC Legend and HTC Wildfire actually happen, waiting until next year shouldn’t be that much of a problem.

Did the versions numbers change at some point or did this site just get them wrong in several posts? If it's the latter, that's pretty shocking for a tech site.
