Sony Ericsson Zylo on Orange: Review and Problems
The Sony Ericsson Zylo is a Walkman device for the music minded available as a free handset on pay monthly from Orange UK, packing 260MB of internal memory which is expandable up to 16GB via microSD card so music lover’s can keep plenty of music at hand.
The Sony Ericsson Zylo is a 3G enabled slider device featuring an FM radio with RDS, 3.15 megapixel camera, TFT display, Bluetooth , accelerometer, GPRS, video calling, geo-tagging, MP3 player, Orange widgets, Orange Music Store, and of course that Walkman music player.
Size wise the Sony Ericsson Zylo measures 103 x 52 x 11.5mm with a weight of 115 grams and delivers a talk time of up to four hours and a standby time of up to sixteen days.

it worked fine for the first month then for no reason the screen went off. well not all off, the back light is still on but no picture or colour. when i slide down faint coloured lines appear but no picture. everything else seems to be working fine ! help?!
same problem…. i can see the back light..but no display…
wen i close the slider, the display works….but it goes off as soon as i open the slider
i went to the service centre, and they showed me bundles of zylos having the same problem and they said they dont have the equipment to solve the problem….
anyone with ideas???
exact same problem with my set too…
went to the service centre and they said it will take about 10 more days for the spare parts to become available… this is really sad… sony is selling the phones without even having its spare parts available!!

Ave Just got the exact same problem. . . . now I know why they were hounding me to get insurance with this phone but never with any others. coz it's construction is crap.

I have the same problem – screen there until I slide up then disappears! Makes texting somewhat impossible. Only had 2 months.
my phone has a problem that its backlight goes if its ideal as usaul but after few seconds flashes back and this keeps happening continously and there is no option for backlight…and it keeps sucking the battery

I can't hear people when its not on load speaker, but I can hear them when load speaker is on. Anyone got any ideas?!?!
My zylo has a sliding prob. Sliding is not strong n have a little shake while sliding. Music sound is poor. I brought It before one month, now I m waiting for the above mentioned probms.
the problem with my zylo is the upperkeys and the downkeys wont work when its slide up !!!! grrrrrrrrrrr so annoying ? hellp mee!!
Yep, same problem here. Slider up turning the screen off and cannot listen to calls unless on speaker phone. Also when slider is up cannot use navigational buttons. Had it two months. Nobody found a way to fix it then?
I have the same problem. This is LCD screens fault. It needs to be replaced for a new one. Cots around 30pounds and takes around a week to fix it.
lets face it the zylo doesn't work, the p*** take s argos gave a no warranty on it so i cant get it replaced :(, iv been dealing with the d pad and other keys not working with it slid up but its virtual impossible now the screen has just gone :(, thats £90 down the drain

I guess we are all become a victim of this Sony Ericsson Phone. Can we find a way to make sony ericsson responsible for this ? We can make a protest so that this product/model be recalled. Their reputation was being damaged. Maybe its time to call their attention. We can start by twitting this to the whole world…
I have had problem with the Zylo since obtaining it. Latest problem being the ear piece not working so cannon hear a calling dialing or the person on the other end when answered. Phone is less than 3 months old and Three have stated they can only repair, not what I would expect on faulty goods !
I've got the blank screen problem too. As soon as I slide up the phone it goes blank. It started with distorted lines now its completely blank. Went to the orange shop I bought it from and guess what, someone else in the queue in front of me had exactly the same problem! Waiting for replacement phone to turn up now, but its getting late so I doubt it will. Had the phone just over 3 months. Still within 6 month warranty. Still not happy.
The back light keeps flashing on and off tried to update the software but noooooo that doesnt work, restored factory settings that worked for a day can any body help me thanks

Zylo has to be one of the worst phones known to man i mean 2 months after buying one buttons dont work when i have opened the phone carnt hear people when callin unless i use loud speaker. If i dont get a refund im goin to tradin standards because this is a true joke.
Same problem with the screen going blank when sliding. Phone only 3 months old. Not impressed.

display problem has now been solved by sony. it was only in 1 group mobile manufacturing. sony has taken back all the faulty mobiles and replaced them with good one. thumbs up for sony ericsson.
My fone is doing this stuff too. Did you contact Sony Eriksson directly or did you get it replaced through your network pls ?

I've just had Orange send me a replacement yesterday as my Zylo developed this screen fault after 3 months of use. Noticed a colleague last night with the same phone and he said it was also his 2nd one, the 1st having developed a screen fault!!! Hope my replacement handset is from the new Sony batch mentioned above by Mohit…
Has anyone received a replacement phone or repair directly from Sony Ericsson? I bought my Zylo online. Started having the same problems as everyone else, including key and ringer malfunctions. I have emailed Sony Ericsson twice about a replacement, as the phone is still under warranty, but have not heard a peep from them.
Hello I am from delhi I pur zylo on 9feb2011. It has buttons problem’ when I close the slide buttons are out of control! After complaining they changed my product, but my new replaced zylo has mfg date of oct2010 ,somebody can tell me that product of oct 2010 is fine or not
my screen is black if i slide it open and it stays black unless i switch it off and restart. broken cable some where, had ti for 4 months and barely used it.
same here – phone screen goes blank when i slide it open. top buttons also stop working. something to do with flex cable or lcd screen. and whoever said that sony has replaced the faulty phones is wrong. haven't heard a peep from them.

I'm from Pune. Just got this phone before 4 months and facing same black screen problem. I think if I purchase phone from Nokia, Samsung or LG, I may not face this kind of funny problem..
they say the problem is the fibre used to make the zylo. I got mine a new fibre and it worked fine but for a week and then i was back to the agonizing problem…poor phone,aaarggg!!!!!
i have the same problem with my cellphone its was working for two months,sony ericsson its the worts customers services i ever seen,i have been contact sony ericcson 4 times,the ask me to send the invoice of my phone by fax,i did it 2 times and one by email,and i am still waiting news from them

mine has been repaired twice since christmas, firstly screen flashed constantly , very annoying, secondly it has no network coverage i can't recive or make calls 90 percent of the time. the repairers have just phoned me on my old phone which works every where to say that they can't fix it as its the way the phone works!

Same problem here, on 3 network, who advised me that it is a common problem, now they say theye have no record of any faults with the zylo, funny as every one else has the same problem. Maybe I should direct them to here !!
My phone had same problem 3 weeks ago – replaced slider by orange. Unfortunately, my husband has the same phone and his screen went blank last weekend! Please do not buy this phone!
I dont have the Screen problem but i have a Microphone Problem when im calling someone… i cant hear and they cant hear me… ¬¬ I dunno how did it happen i can only talk by Using my Headphones >.<

wtf ! I had this phone for 6 months and everything was fine until the day when i slided my phone !…..and pooof.. The display went of in the corners of the phone and when i pulled the slider in everything works fine bt when i open the slide some lines in the corners appear…and when i took it to se service center they broke my battery connector and said that i cnt claim my fucking warranty bt the problem is with the flexi strip then why should i pay… Fuck se then its already 10 days gone and i didnt get my phone back and the customer support is very poor in se
i’ve had my zylo about 3 weeks now and im having serious memory problems ive now paid out over £25.00 on memory cards to try to download my music it recognised i had the memory card in the phone status but wouldnt even let me send a txt as it said i had no memory and yet in the phone status it said memory card 15gb + on my 16gb memory card wtf so bought an 8gb card and had the same problem so my wonderful music phone wont take my songs and wont even let me txt. the only reason i got this phone was for the music…very poor show sony as this is my 3rd phone and 1st time ive had problems….has anyone else had memory problems??

i have had this phone for 6 months and this morning i was playing music and i received a txt and now my screen is completely blank..this is the second problem i have had with sony ericsson phones.. thanks Sony your a bunch of top blokes.!
I am half way thru a 2 yr contract. first, my circle button refused to work if the phone was slid up. I was still under the 6 month guarantee so they sent me new one. Found out that it was a refurb’d one, but it worked. today, i was halfway thru sending a text when the screen went blank. the buttons light up, but thats it. went onto orange site and trouble shoot it. after 4 questions they said you need to call us… HOW? i cant make calls, receive calls, texts, nothing. not even the start up screen come up. And what do they say???? i have to pay to replace. my answer…not paying bill till its sorted. Do not get a zlyo phone…. they are crap!!!
Now on my 3rd Zylo……same problem with the screen disappering…..lets wait and see what happens this time!
I purchased sony ericson zylo on august 2011, but after 4 months of purchasing display probelm occurred, when i open the slide the screen turns to black and many other coulours, but when close the slide everything works fine. sometime not works also, I cleaned battery, removed memory card and done master reset, everything, but didnt get solution yet.Â
Well, looks like I am lucky compared to all you other guys. I have had my phone for 18 months and the screen just went black. Just adding to the body of evidence below that this phone has an inbuilt fault which Sony e should acknowledge and sort for their customers.

no wonder argos were selling these off have same problem with screen when slider operates screen disappears – had one before worked for ages but this one died in less than 6 months should have read this first though its on a three p&g tariff – some suggest replacing internal cable but have you tired getting into a sony phone I have
always liked sony walkman but now they have gone upmarket forget it
