Could AT&T BlackBerry Torch Outshine Verizon iPhone?

So the rumour is that the Big Blue is positioning the latest smartphone out of Research In Motion, the BlackBerry Torch to be a replacement for when AT&T finally loses exclusivity over the iPhone, and it is further rumoured that once the Big Blue loses the iPhone a Verizon iPhone will appear.

Rumour also has it that said Verizon iPhone, a CDMA version of the iconic smartphone which has been called for by so many in the past could possibly make its debut in early 2011 with January being the favoured month.

Of course at the moment all this is rumour and no hard evidence has been thus far offered. But if, and it’s a big if, AT&T does lose exclusivity, and again if Apple gives the iPhone to Verizon, would the AT&T BlackBerry Torch be a big enough smartphone to stand up against the so far mythical Verizon iPhone?

Personally I think that if AT&T really believes they can keep hold of their customer base with the BlackBerry Torch if a Verizon iPhone appears, then they are deluding themselves. The reason for this is firstly Verizon has a better network and no doubt many existing AT&T customer will eventually jump ship, and what new customer could AT&T get if they don’t have the iPhone? Well that’s hard to say but it would definitely have a considerable impact on the Big Blue.

There have been a few rumours that when Apple does give the iPhone to the Big Red, the Verizon iPhone would be 4G enabled so it could play nice on Verizon’s LTE network. Personally I feel this would be a good move by Apple and with both Verizon’s large customer base and their LTE 4G network in the offering it must look an attractive possibility to Apple for an iPhone 5.

So having said all that, what do our readers think? Would AT&T be able to survive losing the iPhone, would they be able to battle against a Verizon iPhone with the BlackBerry Torch, or is AT&T looking at becoming a backbencher in the mobile arena?

You HACK! How much is Verizon paying you to keep up these silly rumors about them getting an iPhone?!?! Jan 2011?? I thought it was Sept 2010? Or was that Christmas 2009?!?! I can't keep these made up dates striaght… How many unnamed sources did you "find" for this article. BUT you have done you job by making unknowing consumers click your article and you get hits that count for you ad revenue… You make me sick!

Verizon isn't creating the rumors.. Verizon would rather the rumors quit!!! Many people are hanging on by an iPhone thread to ATT instead of jumping to VZW like they want because of the rumors.

I was also hoping to find the Torch on Verizon when the phone came out. What a shame- I won't give up my Verizon service for lousy AT&T service though. I thought i read something that the
torch is exclusive to AT&T, but not selling like they hoped. Maybe that will bring it to Verizon

Give it a rest AT&T lovers… AT&T has lost people even though they have the iPhone because of there terrible network. Verizon will dominate when they get the iPhone and they will continue to dominate because no one like dropped calls….

Well I know and can say this much, I have had AT&T and it sucked incredibly bad! I have had Verizon for some time now (BB Storm2), and I have had the best SERVICE!! AT&T can’t compete for the reason that their service sucks! Simple fact, out with the blue and in with the RED. And for the IPhone, well I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Verizon gets it for their awesome network! They already have the Ipad people. It always starts with baby steps. And for it being a rumor, this is true BUT at the same time Verizon has mentioned it to Apple, but they haven’t made a response on it yet. Meaning they may want to see how the Ipad does first. Oh and if its not a Blackberry on Verizon coverage, ITS NOT JAKE S**T!!!
