BlackBerry Ban Spreading to other Countries

Research In Motion produce BlackBerry smartphones which are famous the world over mainly for their security, this is why many businesses choose BlackBerry smartphones for their workforce. However of late it appears that in several countries across the globe are threatening to ban Blackberry smartphones and thus RIM is being punished for the very reason that makes BlackBerry’s popular.

According to an article over on Intomobile by Marin Perez, and by way of The Economic Times, the UAE along with India have threatened to ban BlackBerry smartphones if RIM doesn’t bow down to their governments demands over security, and now Indonesia has also joined in the threat.

The reason these government want access to BlackBerry data is apparently for “security issues” as they believe that terrorists could use BlackBerry devices to coordinate attacks, so basically these governments want to spy on anyone who uses a BlackBerry.

Personally I believe that Research In Motion should stand their ground and not allow these governments to monitor BlackBerry users, like what ever happened to privacy? I know governments have the best intentions, and a need to make their country secure from terrorism, but the ordinary everyday folk do have a right to use a smartphone without government ears and eyes snooping on their communications.

What do our readers think, should governments be allowed to monitor BlackBerry users, and if so where will it stop, will we eventually see all smartphone communications being monitored by all governments?

RIM should definitely stand their ground on this issue. As if there isn't enough government snooping going on around the world in the guise of anti-terrorism. Jeez, its easy enough to go get a whole load of PAYG SIMs and any sh*tty old phone if you want to stay somewhat anonymous…..and cheaper. Bow down to these requests and who knows where it will all end.
