BlackBerry Torch 9800 Sales Disappointing RIM Chops Price

I posted the other day that Amazon was offering the new BlackBerry Torch 9800 for just $99.99 halving the price of the latest smartphone to hit the AT&T network from Research In Motion; however apparently Amazon isn’t the only one offering the device cheaper.

According to an article over on Gizmodo by Jesus Diaz, other online retailers such as Wirefly and Lets Talk are offering the BlackBerry Torch 9800 at $99.99 only a week after the smartphones launch.

Apparently the reason behind Research In Motion chopping the handset’s price in half is due to disappointing sales, which may or may not have been caused by bad reviews, or perhaps that the BlackBerry Torch simply just doesn’t measure up to rival devices.

Even though the BlackBerry Torch is seen as the best Blackberry from RIM in a while, it does have to contend with the likes of the latest Android smartphones and of course the iPhone 4. However as usual AT&T is left lagging as they haven’t updated their page to reflect the lower price yet.

So you can now get the BlackBerry Torch 9800 for half its original price, that’s if you want it of course. Any of our readers interested now that the asking price has been lowered, or does that 2 year contract with AT&T put you off?

  1. I'll be getting it due to the price decrease. $99 seems like a good upgrade cost for this phone, $200 was way too much when you could get the iphone 4 with a higher res screen/hd video/faster processor for the same price.
