Apple Remote Kill Switch is iPhone Jailbreak Weapon

Apple has files a patent for a Remote Kill Switch app, which isn’t out of the ordinary as numerous OS makers use a remote kill switch app to delete any unauthorised applications; however it appears that Apple is taking the remote kill switch a tad further than other operating system manufacturers.

According to an article over on Pocket Now by Chuong Nguyen, and by way of Apple Insider, this new Remote Kill Switch patent from Apple is a new weapon in the fight against jailbreaking the iPhone as this new Remote Kill Switch can also lock out jailbreakers.

Apparently the Patent for the Remote Kill Switch can also lock out unauthorised users if your iPhone has been stolen, but also marks the jailbreaker as an unauthorised user and thus with the new app a carrier could effectively cripple or shut down the device when it detects the user is unauthorised.

The Remote Kill Switch can apparently detect an unauthorised user by comparing the sound of a voice, a pictures and even the user’s heartbeat and if these don’t match the stats of the authorised user the person using the device can be deleted as the authorised user.

If Apple manages to implement this paten they will have the ability to basically remotely control who uses their devices, a good thing or bad, what do you think?

There will be hysteria from the jailbreak lobby but something that can stop a thief from using someone else's phone will surely make them less attractive to steal and that can only be a good thing. I have never been mugged but it must be terrifying.
