Android 2.1 Coming to XPERIA X10 Range by Septembers End

If you are an owner of a Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 smartphone and have been eagerly awaiting an operating system upgrade to Android 2.1, well it appears you don’t have much longer to wait.

According to an article over on Engadget by Ross Miller, the official Sony Ericsson UK Twitter account @SonyEricssonUK has tweeted that XPERIA X10 customers can expect to see the Android 2.1 upgrade hit their smartphones by the end of September this year.

Now we can’t say for sure if this planned update will be restricted just to the United Kingdom or whether it will be a worldwide update, but hopefully it will be for all Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 devices.

The end of September is at least a step up from the original time frame of Q4 that was expected for the Android 2.1 update, so keep your eyes open come the end of next month to grab it.

So we shall take this as an official notice that the upcoming update will be in fact a 2.1, ending the speculations that 2.2 Froyo was to be released in Q4, after skipping 2.1 altogether.

Also, what is more disturbing, is GingerBread 3.0 will be released about 14-15 days after the announced 2.1 SE release, confirming that Sony-Ericsson is still insisting on being at least 3 notches behind in the software race…

Makes me wonder why did I buy 3 X10’s, I guess because I love SE no matter what? Granted the UXP has a great feel and appearance, but the long delay of new releases is not, in any case, justifiable…
