Apple Gradually Taking European Dominance from Nokia

Nokia has for some considerable time been the dominant smartphone provider in Europe, however the latest statistics for July from comScore shows that Nokia’s dominance is slowly being eaten away be competitors.

According to an article over on 9 to 5 Mac by Jonny Evans, MobiLens Survey of July 2010 reveals that those owning a Nokia smartphone in the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, France and Italy are 51.2 percent, which means Symbian marketshare has fallen 14.4 percent since the same period of 09.

On the other hand when it comes to rival smartphone makers in Europe Android and Apple’s iOS grew in marketshare by 5.6 percent and 5.3 percent.

Over in the states Apple has 23.8 percent on the smartphone operating system usage market, behind RIM’s BlackBerry with 39.3 percent, while in the UK Apple’s iOS commands 29.6 percent, in France 31.6 percent while in both territories Symbian still dominates with a 1/3 of the market.
