Yes well I know the Droid Eris is somewhat of an older Android smartphone on the Verizon network, but apparently the Verizon Droid Eris is not worthy of being updated to the Android 2.2 Froyo operating system.

According to Marin Perez of Engadget and by way of an article over on Computer World, Brenda Raney, a spoksperson for Verizon Wireless confirmed in an email that the Froyo update would not be coming to the Verizon Droid Eris.

Raney apparently further commented with “We have other options in Android devices, so this is part of the normal evolution of our portfolio.” So that’s probably the reason Droid Eris owners won’t be getting the Android 2.2 update.

But really it doesn’t come too much as a surprise considering the Big Red has already allotted an end of life date for the Droid Eris, but I’m sure it won’t please Droid Eris owners.
