Samsung Captivate Update Android OS 2.2 Early 2011 Says Rogers

As with most Samsung Galaxy S smartphones the Samsung Captivate for Canada’s Rogers will actually launch sporting Android OS 2.1 the same as every other Galaxy S device, but maybe those waiting to grab the Samsung captivate on Rogers are waiting for news on just when the device may see the Android 2.2 update.

Well we have some news on that subject courtesy of Mobile Syrup’s Ian Hardy and by way of Redboard, apparently Rogers posted to their blog concerning the Samsung Captivate which reads…“expect an update to OS 2.2 to be available early 2011.″

So there you have it, anyone purchasing the Rogers Samsung Captivate in Canada will have to wait until sometime early next year before seeing the Android 2.2 Froyo update to the smartphone.

Does that bit of news put you off purchasing the Rogers Samsung captivate or are you quite okay with waiting for Froyo to hit the device? I must say Android 2.2 Froyo still hasn’t hit my Samsung Galaxy S, but I’m not in too much of a hurry anyway.

Hate to say this but Samsung USA has a nasty habit of screwing around with OS updates. I've been hearing about an OS 2.2 update since before I bought my Captivate in Early October. Samsung won't talk about it and I wouldn't be surprised if they re4leaase a new phone before the update…which means NO UPDATE! It's happened before and if it happens again, it's the last time I buy a Samsung phone.

It's not Samsung. It is a mobile carrier issue in US. Samsung officially announced the update to Gingerbread after its update to Froyo, outside of US…
