O2 vs. Tesco: Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 & Direct Deals
Who would you buy the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 from if you had the choice of O2 and Tesco? Right onto the news, O2 is now selling the X8 direct on contracts through its online store.
They are offering the handset for free and that will give you either an 18 or 24 month contract bundle choice, the direct deals via O2 are not that fantastic if you go on the cheap tariff of £30 per month on an 18-month contract that offers you a dismal 100 calling minutes, are you serious?
If you visit EuroDroid they even say you are better off going to Tesco if you wish to own the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8, I would personally buy the handset via Tesco for £129.97 (Last time we looked Tesco was out of stock).

It's currently instock at VERY for £129
I bought an Xperia X8 at Tesco this morning on O2 and promptly put in the Tesco SIM card. To my surprise it worked straight away and I could use the Tesco SIM to make calls. (They share the same network, so I guess they don't stop you from swapping them over.)
I bought this from Tesco a couple of weeks ago. For the most part I am very happy with it.
I'll start with the bad points: The camera is very poor in low light, this may be a software fault as results vary, but the lack of options on the camera renders it almost unusable indoors. The touch screen is not quite as responsive as more expensive phones, especially when there are a large number of apps installed, occasionally this is noticeable but most of the time it feels as it should. The four corner app launchers for favourite apps are only visible on the home screen even though there would be space for them on all the apps launcher screens, and while using the phone and sms features look good, navigating between conversations, calls and contacts does not feel intuitive.

In the car this phone excedes all expectation, the battery, though apps general run it down, can withstand many hours of GPS navigation (for which two apps are provided, one free the other on trial) and the built in hands free gives a clear call at both ends of the conversation without the need for a headset. For the most part the phone runs very smoothly and while it is no iPhone, and Android is not quite a replacement for iOS, as a former iPhone user I was very impressed by how good this was for a fraction of the price of the more desireable phones.
In summary, it looks good, it feels good most of the time, some of the features are a bit complicated to use and the camera is not up to much., but it is generally quite fast and I am very happy with it.
