Find My iPhone Free for Unsupported Devices?

Apple has announced that their MobileMe service Find My iPhone will be free to owners of the iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4th gen and Apple iPad, but not other IOS devices, but why should those other iOS devices not gain Find My iPhone for free?

Well it seems there is a way of those unsupported iOS devices such as the iPhone 3GS gaining Find My iPhone for free and according to an article over on TiPb by Georgia, @jsnell tweeted that Apple themselves has shown how to get free Find My iPhone on unsupported devices.

@jsnell tweeted…” Fine print down at bottom of http://bit.ly/bDWRmj spells it out. Once you set up the free FMI account, it’ll work on all 4.2 devices.”

And if you check Apple.com here’s what the Find My iPhone page says…” Create a free Find My iPhone account on any iPhone 4, iPad, or iPod touch (4th generation) running iOS 4.2. Once you create an account on a qualifying device, use your Apple ID and password to enable Find My iPhone on your other devices running iOS 4.2. Find My iPhone is not available in all countries.”

Now the thing is this, does that mean you can create a free account but the service will still cost on unsupported devices or does it mean it will be a free Find My iPhone service, especially when it states “qualifying device.” If any of our readers that own an unsupported device try this feel free to let us know if it works.

yes, you can create an account on an iPhone 4 and use it on a 3GS, used my wife's iPhone 4 to create a mobileme account, used my iTunes login as the mobileme login with the same password and then added this account to the mobileme settings on my 3GS….Find My iPhone working fine for free on my 3GS.
