BlackBerry Bold 9780 Launches in Australia

Apparently RIM has now launched the latest smartphone in the BlackBerry Bold range, and the first Bold to sport BlackBerry 6 OS, the BlackBerry Bold 9780 handset in Australia, but does the Bold 9780 offer anything different to the previous BlackBerry Bold 9700 handset?

The BlackBerry Bold 9780 is the successor to the BlackBerry Bold 9700 and according to Davis Swan of ITWire, when it comes to handset specifications there isn’t a great deal of change with the BlackBerry Bold 9780 over the BlackBerry Bold 9700.

However the BlackBerry Bold 9780 does sport an updated camera which is now 5 megapixels as opposed to the 9700’s 3.2 megapixels and also sports the latest version of the BlackBerry operating system, BlackBerry 6, there’s also more RAM upping the Bold 9780 to 512MB over the Bold 9700’s 256MB.

Research In Motion managing director Australia, Adele Beachley has said of the BlackBerry Bold 9780 launch…“The BlackBerry Bold series has always been very popular in Australia and so it’s great to be able to introduce the BlackBerry Bold 9780 with the new BlackBerry 6 operating system. The BlackBerry Bold 9780 features a sleek design with high performance communications, multimedia and web browsing capabilities that will make this new model popular with users for both their business and social needs.”

The RIM BlackBerry Bold 9780 smartphone is now available in Australia on Optus and Vodafone with both carriers offering the device on mobile plans starting at $59.00 a month.

Any of our Aussie readers hoping to pick up the BlackBerry 6 OS packing BlackBerry Bold 9780 now that it is available?

his is my second Blackberry. Upgraded from the old BB Curve 8560. Love the new OS 6 and universal search mode. New camera upgrade is great with useful settings. The MP3 sound quality is wonderful. Screen is crisp. Battery lasts for days and I am a heavy user. Love my BBM and its new upgrades too.
