Android Gingerbread Update Confirmed for HTC Droid Incredible

There are several Android smartphones still patiently awaiting the arrival of Android 2.3 Gingerbread to grace their inner working, one of which is the HTC Droid Incredible, but at least Droid Incredible owners can now sigh with relief as HTC has apparently confirmed the device will gain the OS update.

According to an article over on Android Central, although HTC hasn’t actually come forth with a confirmed release date they have confirmed that the HTC Droid Incredible will gain the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update this summer.

Apparently HTC shot off an email to a customer who asked about the update’s release for the Droid Incredible and HTC responded with…

” Dear [Redacted]:

I understand your concern about wanting to know when the Android 2.3 upgrade will be released for the HTC Incredible. I’m pleased to inform you that there is going to be an update this summer to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). At this time we do not have any more information about the update. When the update is released we will announce it on www.htc.com and www.facebook.com/htc.

If you feel you need more information, you are welcome to send us another
email or you can contact the HTC Technical Support team at [Redacted] daily from 6:00AM until 1:00AM Eastern.”

Having said that one should always take these things with a large dose of salt, but it does at least let everyone know that the HTC Droid Incredible will be updated to some Gingerbread goodness.

Well I also sent an email to HTC and got back a response alerting me to the 18th month end of life rule they have and no further updates will be written or sent out after that. Sof if they do give it to verizon they can sit on it and after 18 months from release date they can dump it. Sounds just like and hand off game till time expires. DO I HEAR A LAWSUIT in the making as they have publicly confirmed a release and I do have all the emails and docs I can find on the internet.
