HTC Wildfire Feeling Lonely: No Android 2.3 Gingerbread

If you own a HTC Wildfire and have been patiently waiting for the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for your device, unfortunately news coming in is that your handset is not going to be receiving the new update — sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

During the next few weeks, some of the best-selling and high-end Android phones, such as the Galaxy S and HTC Desire range (on certain carriers) will be due an update to the latest version of Google’s platform.

However, the HTC Wildfire is not on the list and therefore, will not be getting the Android 2.3 in the foreseeable future and may even be ruled out altogether, as suggested in a Tweet from Three UK, coming to us by way of Top10. The Tweet was in response to a query from a follower and stated, “It currently doesn’t look like Wildfire will be getting Gingerbread I’m afraid.”

In a way, this should not really come as a surprise, as the low-spec HTC Wildfire was not mentioned on the Android Gingerbread smartphone update schedule, that we did an article on dated April 8th, 2011.

It will be a shame if HTC do not upgrade the Wildfire currently running on Android Froyo, as their owners of this device will miss out on a revamped virtual keyboard and some UI tweaks. However, if you own a Wildfire do not despair, as back in December 2010, HTC shocked everyone when they pushed out an update to the ageing value priced Android phone ‘Magic’ and so, there is still hope.

Do you own a HTC Wildfire?, If so why not leave us your comments on this latest news.

      Dont be.
If HTC is releasing HTC WILDFIRE S (comes with ginger bread and a secondary camer + 600 Mhz processor) there is still hope for Wildfire

Oh bad new. i recently bought this one keeping in mind that will be upgrading to 2.3… hope HTC will think about this and come up with upgrade for wildfire

That's a shame, I only bought mine when I knew it was going from 2.1 to 2.2 giving me Wi-Fi Hotspots.
Call me cynical, but it's no surprise that a Hardware company and the Phone Networks don't want all the old handsets software upgraded, when they could sell shiny new ones on juicy contracts..

i bought it yesterday.. i read the reviews that it doesnt support 2.3.. Many hardware features are not working including sensors, camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB and most others. Audio is working for tones but not for media playback, and USB storage is not functioning.

    This is really BADDDDDDDDDDDD……….

Well compared to all other android mobiles HTC wildfire is the best. But eagerly waiting for 2.3 upgrade…. Hope All Goes Well..

HTC Wildfire users dont get fustrated….

    🙂

  6. I bought an HTC Wildfire (Froyo) yesterday from Argos to replace the ZTE Racer (Eclair) I had previously that broke down on me after just 6 months. Granted going from 2.1 to 2.2 with HTC Sense feels leaps and bounds better, but I could care less about 2.3.

Sure, I'd update if possible or given the choice without rooting but I'm not making a big deal of it. If I want 2.3 or future releases of Android…I'll just buy a phone with the release included.

    Am I surprised? No

Although I'm loving it right now…It's a low spec, budget smart phone…doesn't surprise me.

I just bought a wildfire just because i thought i would be able to get 2.3 installed.
Shame on HTC that this ain't happening soon.
    Hoping for the best.
