Samsung Fascinate Android 2.2 Froyo Update: Download

We have some great news for anyone in possession of a Samsung Fascinate, Verizon have finally revealed that they will be sending out the 2.2 Froyo update for the device tomorrow.

Verizon have now finally gone public on the Android 2.2 Froyo update for the Samsung Fascinate, which will happen tomorrow, April 21, 2011. This update will bring the phone nearly up to the newest mobile operating system, that being the Android 2.3 Gingerbread. We would expect the update to start shooting out across the air tomorrow in some areas of the country.

However, if you just cannot wait that long, then there is always a manual download, which comes to us by way of AndroidCommunity. Rather than wait for the server to send you your update, you can get it yourself by following the simple steps below. Please note that you can also use these steps whenever you want to check and see if there is an update.

Step 1: From the main menu tap Menu Step 2: Select Settings Step 3: Select About phone Step 4: Select System updates Step 5: Select Check New. When it pops up on the screen to say you have got a download available, press OK. Then once your download has completed, select OK to install it and once your software is installed, press OK again — all done! If you receive this update as a notification from the server, you will essentially be doing the same thing except you will only need to press OK once!

If you want to find out what the benefits of doing this lovely update are, you can visit Verzion Wireless’ support site [here]. Whether you opt to download manually or via the server, please let us know what you think of the update.

A major improvement to the phone. I like the new icons and the features shown on the drag down minue including data traffic. Auto correct or suggestion seems to have been disabled in emails or text messages. I love the new layaout for touch screen keyboard to include the symbols as apart of regular buttons. So no switching menus.

So glad for this update. Phone had been lagging and couldn't download certain apps, but now I can. I was wondering if there was going to be a new update, but now I don't have to wait for it! Thanks!!!!

I've been waiting for this update so long that it turned into a myth in my vocabulary. But I got the update this afternoon, it took about 45 mins to download but So far its alot faster. Good thing about it is that u now have the option to run Google or bing… in which I rather use Google… there were some changes in the lay out that makes it look like a droid screen… but overall I haven't had much time to test everything out but I do like it. Thanks verizon

I notice with the new 2.2 os it seem to uses my battery more. Why is that?I use an app killer plus I close out any apps that I use.Phone does move alot faster and does a little more than the 2.1os.

did you try turning down the brightness. A coworker just updated hers and it changed that setting on her phone and it doesnt use as much battery.

I, too, downloaded the 2.2 a few days ago. And I notice a considerable increase in the battery drain. Where I used to go 48 hours, I'm having to recharge around 24-30 hours with similar usage. Also, something else I miss (or maybe just can't find!) is the page of bookmarks option when I open the browser. You can choose to "add a bookmark", but when you do, where does it go? I do not see a list of bookmarks like the previous version used.

But on the "pro" side, the speed does seem to be a little better.

junk. i was not asked to download, automatically updated while i was sleeping. reearagend everything the phone, reset all settings, and phone dies very very fast. i think i used my phone for an actual of 1 hour total today, and almost died twice on me today. i have app killers, and have never had a problem before now. lots of hidden programs running, and also, an option to have "mobile data" on or off.. DISLIKE! it so conveniently is on the bar that I always accidentally slide down and press one of the buttons, but do not realize until i look at my phone now. my opionion. fix it. make it more customizable with settings.
