Motorola Droid X Android 2.3 Gingerbread Update Release Date
For those Motorola Droid X users who have waited patiently for the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update, there could finally be light at the end of the tunnel.
Over the recent months there have been a few leaked versions of the Android 2.3 Gingerbread for the Droid X, see our articles on a couple of these leaks — dated March 28, video of Droid X running Gingerbread and dated April 15, guide video on how to download Gingerbread without rooting.
Surely we must be very close to an official update, well according to an article by the guys at Droid-Life, we could see an official update on May 13. What they have been told is the latest build (not 4.5.591 — something newer) has been finalized by Motorola and it is expected that Verizon will sign it off by the May 6, with the possibility of it then being made available for next Friday.
Therefore, if this latest rumour turns out to be true, then Friday could be the start of the rollout test phase, with around May 16 being the date for the mass load to hit users. Please note that as this is a rumour, there is no certainty that it will happen, so for now we just have to keep our fingers crossed.
Also, a point to note is that at least 3 builds from Motorola have already been rejected by Verizon, so even if there is a build, there is no guarantees that it will be passed. If you are a frustrated Motorola Droid X owner, who wants to see Gingerbread running on their device, please let us know your thoughts on the rumours and speculations regarding this long awaited update.

I think this is getting ridiculous. Motorola screwed Android with blur and Verizon carried the tradition with all of the bloat-ware. I, actually, regret having to update to a Droid X without getting to use it for awhile…(that is my mistake. I didn't return it in time). I converted to Android with the original Droid and within an hour of owning it, knew I loved it 100 times better that the iPhone. With the Droid X, or at least with a Droid X running Verizon's CRAP, and Motorola blowing it on some major things, I much rather get in my way back machine and have my original Droid…
At this rate with all the delays, rumors, and problems, my next purchase will be a different Android phone guaranteed. In the mean time, I am seriously considering rooting the phone or installing the gingerbread update for nonrooted users.

Uh, its pretty easy to use another launcher and you'll never see Blur. I use Zeam and I have also heard Launcher Pro is pertty good too
What's ridiculous are these stupid articles. They end their titles with a question mark and base them solely off rumors(which they don't even source the RUMORS). It's not fact, it's lazy bloggers who somehow have made careers out of typing half-ass level articles.

I do really want Gingerbread to officially come out, but in all honesty I would rather them focus on Honeycomb (3.0). Gingerbread isn't even that huge of an update, especially since the Droid x doesn't even have a front facing camera to utilize the new video call feature. Honeycomb + Droid Bionic are my dreams right now. And I get 4g in my town by the end of the year. Let's hurry up with that stuff!
I think what you are waiting for is Android Ice Cream. It will bring a ton of the Honeycomb stuff to phones, but it will be meant for it ;). Ice Cream is the merge of Honeycomb and Android 2.x

I'm looking forward to trying the SIP functionality of 2.3, but other than that I'm not really looking forward to any other aspect of it.
What I don't get, is why Motorola doesn't just offer up Gingerbread for their phones. VZ has a habit of screwing up a good thing with crapware. Look VZ, we DO NOT WANT your crap. It just pisses us off.
