O2 Network Outage Questions and Answers: Issues Update

Today is May 17 and many customers may have been affected by the o2 network outage, well we have some questions and answers about the network issues update.

Today we reported problems with the O2 network thanks to a few of our Phones review Facebook users rightly complaining about their network issues. According to the O2 Blog there is indeed an issue with its network in some parts of North London, East London, East Sussex and Kent.

The problem has occurred due to theft and vandalism at specific sites in East London and because of this issue some customers in the areas mentioned above have and still are experiencing problems with their network such as troubles with making or receiving calls, texts or data.

Engineers are addressing the issue to replace the stolen equipment and they are repairing the vandalised areas, they are hoping to fix the issue today. You will not receive compensation, which basically means just sit back and wait patiently.

Please do have your say in our commenting area provided below about the o2 network outage and how it is affecting you.

a national telecoms company without a proper backup (or effective) disaster recovery plan….absolutely disgusting considering we're in the 21st century!!!

Sounds suspicious, considering it is a 'cellular network'. Have all the masts in Kent been stolen?

I personally think there is something else behind it. I think they have switched the network off for some reason.

      Queen/London/IRA….

      Consiracy theory anyone?

O2 charge me £35+ a month. No compensation!! Dam right its disgusting, Poor customer service now we are all paying for a service we are not getting. The only reason i ever went with O2 in the first place was because they monopolised the Apple iPhone which is great. Shame about the network though. I will definitely be getting my contract with better rates & network elsewhere in July. Shame on you o2 your just take take take all the time.

Surely when we agree and or sign our contracts, we are entering into a binding agreement with O2 that we will get network coverage? I've lost a lot of money today due to my loss of coverage. No phone useage for 15+ hours is not acceptable. No compensation? disgusting.

No coverage in kent or Gravesend area all day… now 18.00…still nothing. I am wondering how much business has been lost and how much stress this has caused people today…I also notice the declaration about no compensation was more important than saying SORRY.

My contract of 8 years is up in June…I will be leaving o2.

Anyone that knows anything about mobile networks will know this type of thing is pretty much unavoidable. All masts have to go back to a single hub and if that's been attacked there's little they can do about it. Visa got hit by exactly the same thing last months so I'd think hard before moving provider.

The masts are all still there but they dont do much good when people start nicking cabling, copper wiring and servers. I have phones on several networks and over the last 12 months almost all of them have had similar outages (and have been less good at broadcasting the outage zones).

So by all means jump ship but dont think it will make any difference for this sort of thing (not defending O2 here but thought it might help to put the others all in the same boat for the sake of perspective),
