Samsung Galaxy S2 Problems by Users: Discussions

Just a quicky: We are calling out to all Samsung Galaxy S2 users, we would love to know if you are experiencing any problems at all with your smartphone.

Earlier on today we reported that the Galaxy S2 is experiencing a yellowish screen problem, which is a hardware issue and not a software problem, you can read that full story here.

Some customers have already emailed us about battery life problems; we would like to know if you are having internal memory issues. Are you having hardware, software, or even user interface problems?

You may not be experiencing any problems at all, and if that is the case then this is definitely a smartphone to buy. If you have any problems big or small we would like to hear from you. Please use the commenting area below and let us know and be the first to start the discussions off.

There is a ‘pink spot’ hardware camera fault on multiple units in different countries which makes the camera useless in some situations. Although there was a rumor amongst users of a software fix in May, the most recent software does not solve the problem according to reports and there does not seem to have been any official word from Samsung about the problems . it was so bad that after exchanging a couple of times I got my money back

Hello I have recently upgraded to a Galaxy S2 and I love the phone. I am however having some issues with Signal, making calls and connecting to O2 WAP. The signal strength on all occasions have been resonable to good but the calls have not connected showing ‘No signal message’ on the screen or the Web site just hangs. Can you help? Cheers

I’ve had a similar problem, not exactly this, but sometimes the phone just stops making and taking calls and SMS’s.. When I try to make a call, nothing happens, it shows the call being made, but I hear nothing and no messages appear… When this happens I also fail in sending any SMS and receive neither calls or sms. A reboot of the phone fixes this issue, it’s only problematic when someone needs to call me and I don’t know it’s stopped taking calls again..

Both me and my wife are having battery life issues. 9 hours on minimal use is really not good i turn things off that i dont need and we both make sure there are no apps running in the background etc 3 phone calls a couple of e mails and 20 mins playing games its dead. Also the wifi range is not good at all either if i stand just outside my back door the wifi nearly drops off which was never an issue on my old blackberry. amazing phone but the battery life is really not good, the wifi i can live with but could be improved.

reset your phone and don’t install nothing that never come with the phone, give that a try
and don’t overcharge the phone( over knight) because that will damage the battery life by 2% every 4 or 5 times you overchargee it ance the alarm goes off disconnect it

You do not know muc of polymer batterys do you?  have a look at battery university dot com and read. polymer batterys can not and will not be overcharged, do to a built in electronical circuit that stops loading when it have reached 100% often it goes down to about 80% before the circuits alow for charge to com in

  4. TERRIBLE battery life. If I give it a full overnight charge, unplug at say 7am, by 11am it is dead and that is after making a few calls and texts, no internet use or anything. T-Mobile replaced first but this is just the same. The phone is excellent, but with a battery that doesnt even last till lunchtime on low use, I wont be able to keep it!

haha Lol nothing wrong with the phone you just have to use apps that are recommended for this phone because I have Two s2 and two Iphones at home two of each belong to me and my girlfriend and my girl had battery issues at first and that was because she had two face books activated at same time, the one that comes with the phone and the one you can get from android App store and one other app that is
not optimize for duo core processor

that cause her battery to drain like in 5 hours from full charge without her touching it

but after I deleted any new app that she installed from the day she started having problems and also deleted the account for face book that comes with the phone every think it,s OK now she can go to work for hours use the face book app and come home and play games for 3 or 4 hours and then charge it again it,s very good

Note: most of the apps on android market are not compatible with s2 they will kill youbutteryry thats for sure that,s the reason samsung put lot,s of apps in there so you don’t have to download new ones but if you have to them download them from samsung store but don’t forget to mention to the software (KIES) that you are using the S2 so that it shows the ones that are compatible with in-fury nothing on android market should ran properly on s2 because of it,s duo core and android market does not show which app is for tablets or single core or duo core so you are blind you just have to download and hope for the best but keep watching the battery life do

The phone was removed from charger at 08 in te morning and at 23, when it was time for bed the phone had 78% batery left. Probably your handset is faulty. also note that the first thing I ever did was to upgrade it soft to 2.3..5

common guys the battery life is better then the iPhone 4 period like 3 hours more I tested it
and one more thing don’t over charge your phone because you will brake the battery thats the reason samsung installed an alarm to worn you when the battery is charge at 100% then you have to disconnect it.

remember that evry time you charge your phone over night your battery life is going lower
thats why you having problem simple

The vibration on my phone suddenly stopped. I have tried factory reset but it wont vibrate anymore. Anyone had this problem before?

  8. Really bad signal problems on the two Galaxy S2 handsets on TMobile I’ve tried. About half my calls are disconnected, and continual “no data connection”, “Server error” and “no network connection” messages. It can take twice as long for a text to arrive as on my Nokia 5800 which has constant full signal on the same network. And oddly, a few days ago we had a power cut in the house and the Galaxy S2 couldn’t even make calls. Whereas my old phone was unaffected. So disappointing as it is a wonderful phone in every other way. Sadly I think it will have to go back again and I’ll wait until a better version is released.

I have the same problem. my calls disconnect or cann´t hear anything. or cann´t take it at all. It sends the calls to voice mail sometimes.:(

  9. I am having major issues that neither Samsung nor the CPW seem to be able to fix. The driving mode and voice commands have been launching randomly, always followed by a self launch of the Samsung KIES service. In addition, when charging there seems to be issues with the phone “freezing” on the lock screen and requiring a hard reset. Finally, the sound (both incoming and outgoing) is dropping out during calls. I cant her the other person and they cant hear me unless I switch to speaker phone.

Someone has suggested that it is a micro UB issue (faulty connections could be making the ohone think that it is in a car dock), and I was told by CPW to “clean the usb port of fluff”!! Well, after pointing out there wasnt any (I keep the phone in a protective case), they were stumped. I’ve seen the porblems discussed on forums, but noone seems o have a resolution yet. Any chance anyone here knows whats wrong?

I have similiar issues with the phone. In addition to that, the phone even starts charging randomly without any charger attached to it. Also, sometimes when there is a charger attached, it won’t charge at all. Also in standby mode the screen will just light up and stay lit. Very bad for battery life!!

Weird thing is that I switched my phone off for a week (wanted to ship it back to amazon), turned it back on (to check if the error’s still there) and the issues were gone. Only now, another week later the issues are coming back again 🙁

Seems like now I have to send the phone for a repair.

On which forums did you read about those issues?

Hi I have a brand new Samsung Galaxy S2 on Orange and its been back to them 3 times now with the same problem. The bluetooth on the phone doesnt work correctly as when I connect it to a bluetooth headset that is compatible with the phone when I make a call or receive a call out and about the quality of the call is very poor and sounds like a darlick. I have tried 4 different hight end bluetooth headsets and all have the same problems, but work fine on other phones. Orange are looking into this as maybe a fauly with the chipset?

Anyone else having same problems as its a shame as a good phone.

        Hi Les

Thanks for the reply and glad to hear not the only one. Orange are looking into it further but to me seems like other people are picking up other problems with the phone.

Its very weird how it only makes the darlick sounds via Bluetooth and when out and about.

    4. Hi, Like yourself I have tried a few different headsets. When the headset is connected and I receive a call, I can hear the caller clearly. But if I make the call, then the person on the other end sounds like a “darlick” (to use your term). I will also report tyhis to Orange and see if it will expedite the issue with Samsumg.

I have my Galaxy S2 for about a month now and I have been experiencing several times (sometimes twice a day and then not again for like a week or so) that the phone just goes ‘dead’ by itself.
Like today, I had a normal phonecall, battery was almost full, not problem at all. I put the phone down and when I picked it up – about an hour later – it has switched itself off. Starting it up again is only possible after first removing and putting back the battery.
It’s not about battery-life, because it was almost fully charged. I haven’t seen any other statement like this. Did anyone else encounter this problem and… more important, does anyone have a suggestion about what to do?
    Jo

  13. Hi, I bought Samsung galaxy S2 on 10th of this month from Carrefour City centre, Sultanate of Oman. The handset heats up and gets so hot that it burns ear and the palm feels the heat. All this happens if the phone is used over 20 minutes either to talk or download apps or browsing internet. I bought this phone confidently believing in the touted capabilities of it, but am now running pillar by post to get a refund from the retailer.. I posted this experience in Samsung’s Facebook wall but no response.. Also I see lot of similar complaints in the Android forums since May 2011. But still Samsung is neglecting this issue.

    1. my phone got hanged once when i connected to the aux in my car. i also get grey lines when i press the power button or home button to unlock my phone. this happens sometimes, not always. its quite annoying. if it always happened i cud have gone to get it fixed but wen i went it wasnt showing, so they cudnt understand my problem (samsung service centre)

  19. Had my phone for one week now and the last 2 days, my SGS2 notification bar started to disapear and I had to restart my phone. Also, my battery doesn’t last long even though I force stop the Wifi Sharing and I have some connectivities problems like: can connect to my wifi network but can’t surf on the net or apps market and also I can’t connect to my PC trough BT but I think Samsung hasn’t release a driver yet :S

  20. I updated my phone firmware from Samsung UK site from inside the phone. Suddenly I see data connection problem. Gtalk will not connect. and other messenger will also not connect. Restart though helps in restoring the data connection. This has started after 2 months of my purchase.

I purchased the Galaxy S2 phone 3 weeks ago and initially there were no problems with the handset. However ,at the begining of this week while about to make a call, my phone became extremely hot, the screen appeared to encounter interference, went blank and then the screen actually went yellow and stayed yellow!!! I took it back to my phone store, who stated as I had the phone 3 weeks it needed to be sent away (not a replacement!). The assistant also asked whether my phone ever got hot as this appears to be happening with this make. He also mentioned that the phone should not be charged for more than 2 hours as they overheat!!!.

Anyone else seeing this… data stops transmitting even though the phone is showing good signal with 3G or H connection. It seems to stop when the phone transitions to a new cell or from H to 3G.

The only way to regain data is to toggle flight-mode or restart.

my samsung galaxy s2 has started switching itself randomly to “car mode” which then drains the battery like a toilet flush! I’d love to know if I’ve done something wrong and how to fix this problem

    1. I currently have the moto droid 1 and i know my phone had the same issue when it first came out. The cause to the problem was due to people letting magnets get too close to the phone which was the phone’s way of sensing if it was in its car cradle. I’m not sure if the S2 car cradle uses magnets to let the phone know it should be in car mode but that could be your problem. Just keep it away from an magnets and you should be fine.

Now and then I get the yellow screen. But what my problem is, is when I call a person and (for example) it’s voicemail and I don’t want to say something to the voicemail I just press the red button, then the screen stays but the buttons turn grey (which is normal) but then it takes like at least 30 seconds for the screen to dissapear and when I press the ‘back’ button I get the notification I’m still calling… I then have to put my phone to ‘flight mode’ to make the call end…

I got a lot of network problems with SGS2. After the initial wow-effect I noticed programs cannot access internet very often. There is constant 10+ Mbps 3G where I live, but that doesn’t help. Icons say everything is working correctly, but all programs are offline. The problem reflects also to calls. Sometimes I have to wait 1 minute for the phone to connect. Restart helps and sometimes turning network off an on. This is especially bad since my last phone was 2 year old Nokia N900 which never had these kind of problems. Wouldn’t recommend SGS2 until they’ve fixed this.

Dear Phonesreview.Co.Uk. I bought my Samsung Galaxy S2 in Copenhagen I live there.
After having the device for 2 days I managed to drop it onto the ground and then the screen broke. I dropped it from a 40 centimeter-height. It’s sad but true. The phone still works perfectly but with a huge X-crack over the entire screen. I have heard that to replace it you also must replace the TFT because the TFT and the Glass is somehow glued or connected together. Wasn’t GORILLA GLASS supposed to be also uncrackable?

Anyways. This is actually not my reason for posting here.

Both me and my employer are gadget-geeks and we always buy the latest in phones.
The reason why I am mentioning him as well, is that we are *both* seeing problems everyday with MICROPHONE and DROPPED CALLS. The issue is when I dial people or when people call me, on random occasions they I cannot hear them. The fix is SOMETIEMS to turn the SPEAKER on and off, this. But like I said, this works SOMETIMES.

Another problem is that while we are talking, connection drops. Suddenly. I can hear a 3millisecond SCREEETCH/WHINE during the connection-drop.

    This is outrageous.

Old Stable Nokia phones, that we really didn’t have to replace, SOUND BETTER and WORK BETTER than this. CALLING. Not some ultra-advanced Android-feature, but CALLING doesn’t work on the world’s best phone.

    Outrageous.

Sometimes I also get a problem with the memory-card getting UNMOUNTED (Linux/Android speak) for no reason. I have no idea why. It suddenly “pops back in” and I can access the media-files on the SDCARD again.

Another error is that I sometimes get a MEMORY INSUFFICIENT to access the music-player.

I am also IMPRESSED by the insanely fast speed the battery drops. I know that it’s my fault.
But I can use 70% of the battery in 1.5 hours.
    Here’s how:
    3G internet access connected
    WIFI-HOTSPOT turned on
    Girlfriend surfing the web
Friend calling me on Skype (on the phone)
70% of the battery in 1.5 hours.

I have tested this only as a scientific experiment, I of course understand that I must have it connected to the charger to have it function as a wireless router and an IP phone 🙂
But the Batterygraph (3rd party app) is truly amazing to watch.

Thank you for listening. To sum up, my biggest problem is that CALLING doesn’t work satisfactory.

    Hi All,

Well it seems i have a unique problem with my s2 which i would like to share with you all…

I ordered my sgs2 as it first came out in the uk, some 3 months ago, up untill a week ago i have had little to no probs with it.

Last Sunday i decided to play an online multiplayer shoot em up. I noticed the sgs2 get very very hot, hotter than normal, so after my game i decided to let it rest whilst it runs out of battery.

After a couple of hours charging i decided it was time to turn her on and play games again, to my shock, the phone would not read the sim at all, (this causes many other probs too).

I rang T-mobile who advised me i had a fault and had to take it to one of their shops for repair.

The next day i trundle to T-mobile in Torquay where a salesman/ idiot thought he knew best. He sent my sgs2 to a repair centre with the wrong diagnoses.

I think they will get the problem sorted, but i am told it could be atleast a month before i see my mobile again.

I was given a stupidly crap replacment phone which cannot access internet (not happy).

I am on holiday next week in the wilderness and wanted this mobile for the 2x 12 hour car journeys, guess that’s not going to happen now. Thanks Samsung for the great phone, but before you roll out to the world how about fixing these niggles?

My problem with the SGS 2 is the camera, with maximum zoom the photos are just bad. I have tried 3 other SGS 2 and all had the same problem. In fact, the Galaxy S, with supposedly a lower spec cam, produced identical results. But an iPhone 4 produced much better photos at maximum zoom of the same scene. The camera is not as good as reviewers claim, not by far! I have noticed the same issue in other blogs, but strangely enough nobody ever answers to this!

I have had a number of issues with my galaxy and have already returned one after 20days as it wont pick up any Network coverage and will not connect to the web! even though the phone itself is showing 3-4bars it will not call out and frequently drops call mid way through. The only way around it is to switch it off and on a number of times!

The replacement is just as bad and i am trying to return it for a different phone. 3g have confirmed there is a issue with the Galaxy failing to pick up reception even in good coverage areas and have stated there is no solution to the problem yet.

The phone is also prone to getting very hot and this is apparently due to the software overloading itself. If you turn it off and then on it usually returns to a normal temperature

The reason no one can hear you talk is there is a microphone in the back of the phone designed to cut out background noise so the person you are speaking with can hear you clearly. Unfortunatly the mouth piece has to be right next to your mouth or the phone thinks your voice is background noise and cancels it out thus no one can hear you

I also have A Samsung S2, beautiful phone, until yesterday it just went blank on me. Tried everything to get it back on but was unsuccessful. Had no choice but to take it in to the shop and I am now told I won’t be getting it back for at least 3 days. My wife also has a Samsung s and is constantly having freezing issues with it, even though she has upgraded the software. It initially froze on her, wiping all her contacts and everything on the phone clean. Will never be buying another Samsung phone, but unfortunately I am stuck with this one, as I am in a contract for at least another year and a half. I was always a Nokia fan, solid nice phones that have never let me down, but was swayed by the flashiness of the Samsung. Please Nokia, get back in the market and build us some beautiful phones that work and we love so much.

2 weeks ago power button failed to work, took it back to t-mobile store in uk, they sent it back to samsung, got it back yesterday and put my sim in and there is no signal what so ever with a no entry looking sign up top right.. the icon is there if sim card is in the phone or not..

Also around this time noticed that car mode had switched itself on. I’ve never used car mode before, why it should suddenly start to switch back on by itself & activate stuff you’re not using is beyond me. Phoned Samsung & even they had no answer to the problem. They offered to take a look at it though. Will see what happens…..

So when not driving I turn Motion back on. Found that phone not working at all one time and somehow it had gone into airplane mode. Deactivated airplane mode and all was well. The phone is rather hyper-sensitive to any vibration inputs. Like it still but wondering if these issues are fixable.

My SGS 2 after 2 weeks over heats around the camera area (Really hot) when on the charger with no apps running….it will not run off the charger now and the last time it did the full battery lasted 3hrs max in idle. The phone will sit there and constantly restart itself because it over heats.T- mobile repair centre said that problem was not covered under warranty and that I must have dropped it… Quote “Not all internal damage can be noticed from the outside of the phone” unquote – What a fu@#en cop out!! Insurance turned me down because I did not report it to them first Grrrr….have to get it repaired now which could cost £75 – £150

I got my SGS2 before two weeks, most applications required a google account and each time I sign in with my account it gives me that I cant have a reliable connection to the server and asks to try again, I’ve been trying to sign in from the first day I got it.
Second issue is from time to time, the process “google.maps. something” keeps facing an unexpected error and shows a message to force closing it, it causes me to lose some information while I try to add them, and just goes back to home screen. It stops all other applications and close them all.
Game Hub doesnt work as it always gives a network error and try again message.
Other than that the phone is quite good.

I got S2 a couple days ago; I can’t say I’ve experienced any problems with hardware, battery life, interface, or display. Then again, I’m highly intuitive when it comes to programming phones for optimal use. After looking through other comments, it seems as though many users are experiencing problems that are most likely caused by their stupidity. The only qualm I have about this phone is that sometimes when im typing on the full keyboard, Swype will kick in and try to form my word as I’m continuing to type. However, this can be easily remedied by turning your swype off.

Oh, and one more thing. Just because phones have made such a technological leap doesnt necessarily mean everyone should jump on board. These devices are essentially laptops with capabilities beyond one. My point being, these phones aren’t for everyone. If you’re thinking about getting this phone because “it has a big screen for videos and you can totally go on facebook faster”, then this phone probably isn’t for you.

There is no need to be patronising or condescending to people, this is a site for people to share their technical issues with the phone – not for you to attempt to boost your obviously, already over-inflated ego by belittling others. This displays, more, your lack of intellect and social skills that hark back to the neanderthal period rather than the information sharing this site offers about problems people are having with this phone. I love the phone but it does still have issues, even the best review sites agree with this & maybe just one day your particular phone might just develop one of the same faults that actually prove to be beyond your amazing “intuitive” skills…………………..

    TEXTING:
I’ve found that when I receive a text message and I try to reply to it immediately, nothing appears in the text box when I type – the keys vibrate, and it does spell checking etc., but nothing is outputted to the text box for around five minutes and then it works as normal.

    CALLS:
If I miss a call and try to call straight back, the green call button does not work, nor do any of the other ways of trying to make a call. This also lasts for around five minutes. Similarly, if I make a call to someone and then hang up, the screen which shows that I’m in a phone conversation doesn’t disappear even though the call has ended. If I then press the home button, the status bar at the top of the phone turns green as if I am still in a phone conversation. If I bring down the drop-down meny from the top, the red “hang-up” button has no effect, but pressing the green call button gets rid of the active call-status. None of this happens if I receive a call from someone.

Are we having problems???? There are TOO MANY PROBLEMS with this phone and it’s becoming a joke. A simple Google search of the phone name will prove that, as most of the search results are people looking for help with technical problems. It’s a shame, because the phone is lovely when it’s working properly.

What problems have I had in the 3 months I’ve had this phone?

    1. Photos disappear when I plug in the USB cable to upload them.
    2. Videos I take wont playback because they are in mp4 format which is an “unsupported file type” – I never changed them to mp4 and don’t seem to have any way of changing them back.
    3. Force close messages which never end.
    4. Each time my phone is turned off, when I turn it back on it has restored itself to an earlier point in time – all of my settings from before I switched it off are gone. Apps I’d previously uninstalled come back, photos I recently took disappear and old photos come back, etc etc. So I can’t even turn it off now as I’m so worried I’ll lose data.
    5. Factory reset doesn’t work – just takes me back to these saved settings mentioned in 4
    6. I have to take it back to the shop for the second time because of these things. It was apparently fixed by technicians but I don’t see a difference.
    7. Last night it turned itself off for no reason. Battery power was 78% and wifi and GPS were off.

So yes, we are all experiencing problems, and it’s about time they were fixed.

I have Galaxy S2 and here are my observations:
1st week downloaded some apps suggested by a previous user that has used Android/Samsung since last year.
2nd week synched my work office exchange account. it still worked fine.
yesterday- work exchange service provider sent newer security licenses and encryptions.
observed couple places where upon pressing the button – like “recent apps downloaded” phone shut off immediately.
Today again it happen twice – took it to AT&T, they said it something i downloaded as apps.
Thereafter – i tried to look up things on Google – shut off and restarted again by itself.
looked up other place – shuts off and restarts itself.
The only new recent app i downloaded between last 2 days is added “Double Twist Player” and moved my music from itunes to DTP.  Now my phone does not want to sync with Kies also.

I do not know what i did wrong…but this is messed up.

Screen occasionally turns mirror image (everything backwards),
    Voice talk starts itself,
    Kies starts itself,
    Driving mode starts itself,
speakerphone turns itself on during calls,
Battery drains in around 8 hours with the phone just lying there in standby. Nothing used at all.

Had mine for about 4 months. Overheats up to 50 degrees C, turns itself on and off without warning, has horrific battery life if not in airplane mode, 1% a minute is used with use of gprs and wifi both on, not to mention bright screen. Often when turned it rings and vibrates for around a minute consistently without any actual call being received.  The only reason I have not reported/ made a claim is because I’ve been out of the country 8 weeks and working full time the rest. It is a nightmare. I appreciate mine is a faulty product but my God, mine is faulty.

Just got my phone back after sending it back for repair (a white line appeared on the screen, like dead pixels). And WOW.. It’s a completely different phone! I have no idea what they did with it but it’s faster, it doesent get hot as it did before when I watched movies or played games, the battery lasts a lot longer and i could finally update it. I suggest others who are having trouble with the phone to return it back for service. When i first got the phone i thought all of these “small problems” was just how the phone should be, except for the white line across the screen. The phone is really awesome! Hope you all get your problems with the phone sorted. Excuse my bad english. /Best regards.

As posted in response to another, below. I’ve had mine for hardly 2 weeks. Internet will suddenly freeze, then shut down. I noticed the same issue with a game I downloaded (Star Legends): the action freezes, and it closes down. Phone remains on, however. At some point, the internet was closing every 5 or 10 minutes.

No other probs so far, but reading the other posts here, it just seems to be a matter of time. Given that it’s only been a fortnight, that’s quite an indictment of Samsung.

Should’ve gone for the iphone four and a half.

I had a few of these problems but if you really get into the setup, you will find you are running to many apps and you might have it configured all wrong. Had mine 2 weeks and it’s just humming right along. You could always save all your data and restore it to factory defaults. There are a ton of options and it is sometimes confusing. Hang in there.

I had my SGS2 for less than a week. When I left work today, I checked the phone and it had 20%+ battery life.  When I got home (about 10 minutes), the phone was completely dead.  Surprised that the 20% battery could be gone in less than 10 min!  I plugged in the charger and started charging it.  When I started the phone, I noticed that most of the apps I installed recently were marked as if they were moved to SD, therefore rendered them unusable, apps icons turned grayed.  I had to uninstall them one by one and reinstalled them from the market.  Very strange experience!  Anyone has any explanations?  Thanks!

This phone is just eye candy.  Pretty pathetic when a two year old iPhone 3GS gets better signal and wifi connections than this piece of junk.  What good does a fast processor and boot time do if everything else is crap?  Low volume when talking on the phone, crappy wifi signal and overheating issues.  Fail again Samsung.  At least Apple knows what they’re doing.

  144. I will join the club as well. I’ve had the Samsung Galaxy S2 since Oct. 4th. AT&T gave me 30 days to try it out. What made me buy this phone is the powerful harware, camera, and beautiful and big screen, but… I think the worst part of the phone is Android, which I think needs a lot of work. Notifications suck, battery dies quickly and email sucks ass as well. Now I am not sure if the following problems I will mention are from Android or the Samsung interface. These are:

    Data connection loss
GPS connection loss or unable to connect or locate
    Music player is horrible
    Choppy scrolling on browsers
Notifications are horrible (mentioned above as well)
    WiFi is weak as hell

I don’t know but ever since I switched from the iPhone 4 to the Samsung Galaxy S2, it’s like if I was driving a 2011 car then traded it for a 1981 car that is about to break down. I just don’t feel it’s reliable and makes me think I’m gonna get stranded with no communications or poor communication services. I’m taking it back today and maybe I’ll get an iPhone 4S, maybe. iOS jailbroken is the perfect platform for me.

It’s merely because of your syntax “have a problem that it gets very hot.” Technically, you had a problem that it exploded into your face, and you either need to stop calling people while you’re in a microwave. Or consider that sheer amount of dust you keep on your person.

As I type this message I am playing xbox. Why xbox? Because my cable tv reception cable box(made by samsung) is not working once again, thus watching cable tv can be a off and on issue.I say this, to point out the FACT that Samsung is not known for making products that have a reputation of reliability.Samsung products break down quite often in fact.My samsung cable box software is just another example.

The Samsung Galaxy s2  is a very exciting prospect when considering all the different features that the phone offers.I am not loyal to any cell manufactor but I do appreciate companies that make phones that prove to be reliable. My Apple 3GS for the last 18 months has served me well, not perfect, but reliabe.I had times when it frooze up on me which was very frustrating. But nothing worst than that.I’m leaning toward the apple 4S or the galaxy S2.

I want a smartphone that does an excellent job of taking dictation for text, notes, make phone calls, and do all three via voice command. My concern with the S2 is how reliable will it be in general and how reliable will its voice command be versus Apple’s Siri? Galaxy S2 seem to have all the bells and whistles but will they still work 12 months from now? What is your opinion?

My Samsung Galaxy S2 has few problems. To start i had problems with Video Recorder where after recording for 30 seconds my phone restarts and does not save anything. Sent it for servicing but nothing happened.
Since the start many of them commented that they cannot hear me, i thought that i am not speaking loud enough but every one comment that the voice is very low as i am in a tunnel.

This phone freezes so frequetly that i have to restart phone atleast 5-6 times in a day and at times i restarts by itself.

Some days i work in a area where there is no T Mobile signal and after coming out of this area my phone still says that there is no signal where in i can receive or make any calls. This means i will miss all the calls untill i restart the phone

Finally this is the first time i had so many problems with any phone

Tonight, has started to display and shutting off again. I am returning as it is under warranty. I am seeing on online forums this is not uncommon. what is gooing on?

Worry if someday it will be burnt to nothing, I had it checked at the cust serv center, and after 10 days, they said the mistake was in the motherboard, but they didn’t know when the spare parts would arrive. So i have to WAIT again for several weeks….

    Two issues:
    1. Sometimes the screen goes black, but then will not become active again. This is not a screen lock issue that I can tell. The phone is still working. Only solution I’ve found is to remove the battery and put it back. Then it works perrfect again.
    2. A few apps, Yahoo finance for stocks is a prime example, causes it to lock up, the battery red lines, the whole phone gets hot. If you terminate the offending app, it returns to normal after a minute or so.

And a note to Samsung, I can live with a few extra mm of thickness if you can do soemthing about the heat dispersion. Ultra thin is not always good.

It happens to me too, but not sometimes – EVERYTIME I make a call, the screen goes blank and I have either to remove the battery or to connect it to a charger in order to bring it back from hyperspace. Samsung technical service doesn’t have a clue to what is happening and seems to know less about this piece of &!¨@%@$ than I do. I intend to smash it with a sledgehammer on YouTube so everybody knows Samsung only sells expensive crap. Oh yes, and I will buy my sixth Nokia, with apologies to them.

I have spoken to samsung and they say its a sound card problem so got straight on the phone to dial-a-phone and they are replacing the handset no questions asked so i wonder if this is another problem with the s2, although i must say its the only problem i got with my handset and have been very pleased with everyting else it has to offer. Bought an S2 unbranded, sim free. Was going to retire my old HTC Desire. All worked perfectly at first, but after 4 weeks, the pink spot problem on the camera grew so severe it convinced me to return it for full refund. Samsung offered to repair/replace it, but I was told the replacement might have same problem. Hence it’s a design/manufacturing fault, so the deal’s off.

As Samsung’s websites didn’t even acknowledge this fault, no one knew if a fix was in the pipeline. That’s poor publicity for the company. Best advice is to hang back and wait for others to spot the manufacturing defects. Then decide if you want to risk buying.

All in all, a great phone and once you turn off the Auto Synch, it has a reasonable battery life – that is unless the sodding Voice Control service starts (which it does without any help from me).  To cure temporarily, I open Running services and close it, then close it again, then close it for a third time.  It then gets the message and doesn’t start for a while.  I suspect Facebook is launching it, so am about to uninstall Facebook and see if that sorts it.

Just remembered another issue.. Navigation. You can not adjust the volume of the lady giving directions. I’m listening to podcast then  TURN RIGHT AT THE….SCREAMING. Almost drove off the road. Adjusting the volume while in Nav would lower volume of Nav on the Evo. Galaxy s2 turns down the entire phone. Lowering Nav lowers music.?  !?!

Switched from Evo to Galaxy S2 and found these differences/ issues/ gripes. Not all necessarily bugs with phone but annoying functionality losses from the Evo.

Can not drag and drop songs from ITunes. Have to ‘view in internet explorer’ then drag that file.

Earphone button does not control player. Will not pause or skip.

Music. You can not rearrange order of songs/ pod casts from the player. Nor while plugged into pc.

Email takes forever to figure out whom I’m composing email to. Evo would snap up similar spelled addresses that I would choose from after a couple of letters. This phone has a whirly working thing and you wait like 15 secs. ! It will be quicker to memorize addresses and type in completely.

Bluetooth for car…just not compatible. It connects, plays music and phone seems ok but closes music player altogether if you take a call. Pause button on car stereo doesn’t pause music, it starts a random song but still shows previous song on phone    playing.

I have had problems with my phone since day 1 (June 2011) not being able to use wifi hotspot for gaming on my PS3 console and it usually drops or locks up on bluetooth when connected to my 2009 BMW 750i. I have contacted samsung and sony regarding the ps3 issue and samsung told me several months ago (July 2011) that it was a software thing and it should be fixed with a software update. After talking to Sony they told me the problem was to do with the phone’s firewall. (I need a NAT3 on the ps2 and all I get is a NAT2-limited connectivity and then kicked off the psn network). As for the car it is still the most hateful thing when it drops the calls and locks me out of the phone so I cannot answer the call even with the phone! I still can hear the call ringing in the car speakers and then it just quits. To be fair, with regard to the car issue, I have not talked to BMW nor taken the car in to the dealership to check for software updates. The car starts updating the phonebook and I am screwed until I stop and battery break the phone and or stop and shut off the car. Not cool!:(  Anyone else have these issues? I should mention I have an HTC Incredible S that works no problems with both the car and the ps3 and so if I need to I can switch to it. I thought that I had upgraded when I purchased the Sammy but it is staritn’ to look like the Sammy is the second stringer!

It always answers calls with loudspeaker on,automatically goes into car mode, tries to connect to a pc ,get a strange blue homescreen with accuweather and clock, battery life about 5 hours without use and gets very hot. Vodafone wanted it for up to 10 days which I dont think is acceptable as it is only 3 months old . I think a new (not a quality refurbished ) phone should be issued.

same here, my phone goes into driving mode, randomly turns HDMI connection on, so no speaker works, also freezes on the lock screen, battery doesn’t state charge, and if it does, when you unplug it, the charge system states its still charging?!?! lucky enough though it physically does take charge,

all software issues which are annoying, and the only fix that I know is to take the battery out and restart the phone….

Exactly the same problem, except my battery icon is randomly showing that it is charging when it is nowhere near a charger, and when this first started happening every time I pressed the home button I was taken to some weird screen that I’ve never seen before. It was a purple screen with a digital clock, and 5 dock icons. Whenever I tried to do something on that screen I received the message “connection failed”.

Also, my phone will not turn off. It will only reboot when I try to power down, and occasionally it reboots into the Odin scree. Even taking the battery does not help, and reinserting the battery starts the phone up again automatically.

Tried a factory reset, which seems to have worked for a day, but this morning my phone started randomly and constantly buzzing and showing the battery icon as charging when it was not.

I am having some trouble with my SG S2, when it comes to writing a text message. I can only write like 40 characters, and then turns automatically in a Multimedia message. This is really frustrating, because I have sent hundreds of messages, without knowing it, and my phone bill now is huge.

Anyone have any idea why is this happening?

Other than that, this phone is simply perfect in every way.

    Thank you loads, people!

I even went into my mailbox and deleted all the old, sent, deleted mail…and yes I even deleted the account from the phone and tried again. Oh..and 2 hard resets to the phone losing all my apps setting the whole thing upo again yada yada. This phone is a TOTAL JOKE! Thought I had a bad one, forced Spring to give me another one, and I get the same and even MORE issues the more I use it.I am currently deleting mail from 2007! I will delete 30 or 40, get it to just the ones I want, and next sync it dumps in a boatload more thats even older. Make no sense!

Voice recognition is a joke. All I ever get is connection error or no speech detected, and if it’s during an e mail reply, it will crash the e mail and cause a force close losing the mail.
DON’T BUY THIS PHONE! IT BLOWS!

I got my new Samsung Galaxy  S2 in May 2011 (it is now Nov11) , and within a couple of months it started freezing on the internet and just not allowing me to use applications such as facebook.  Now I have a bigger problem with the phone just not switching on properly in the mornings.  I switch it on and get as far as the black screen, but then nothing happens and I have to take the battery out of the phone and then put it back in and start all over again.  This happens most mornings and is very frustrating.  Worse than this a new problem has started this week where every so often I cannot make calls.  It gives me the ringing symbol (the flashing lines to say it is ringing) but absolutely nothing happens.  I had this all day until I took the battery out and restarted the phone up again.  (Initially I thought it was a problem with the number I was dialling but then I realised it was the phone – I did all I could to stop myself smashing it on the ground in frustration!!).

I traded my iPhone 3 for a Samsung Galaxy S2 over the Thanksgiving Day weekend and I returned it after having it for a little more than 24 hours. The issues I had with it were:
    1. The phone gets hot to the touch.
    2. My emails were not properly loaded especially the different folders.
    3. I emailed myself a Quick Office presentation and it won’t download…kept saying that it was fetching the file but nothing was happening. I tried this a few times.
    4. My wife tried calling me several times and the phone did not even ring. The calls are not even on the phone log as missed calls. My wife finally got a hold of me when she called the home phone.
    5. The text that my wife sent me did not even get through.
Needless to say, I returned my phone and went back on my iPhone 3. Can’t wait for the iPhone 5!

I have had the Galaxy SII for a few months and must say that up to now it has been a great a phone. There are only 2 issues I have with it. 1. The battery life, comparable to the Iphone 4s lasts less than a day making a few phone calls popping thorough a few texts and reading about a dozen emails. 2. This is becoming  a problem when I plug into the charger it completely loses signal while charging and i have to reboot it everytime! I now switch it off to charge.
I also operate an Iphone 4s along with the Galaxy and the Iphone has similar problems battery life, 3G drops out and i have to switch to airplane mode 5 – 10 seconds then switch back for 3G to come up. Overall I would rate the Samsung above the Iphone 4s especially with wealth of free Android apps compared with more expensive Apple Apps.

I’ve discovered that turning push off definitely prolongs the battery life.  The negative of this is I have to search to see if there is any email rather than be automatically alerted.  I’ve just purchased a replacement battery with a rating of 2300 against the standard 1650 so that should prolong the working days usage and it fits inside the standard back cover.  I’ve also turned off voice control to stop the “What would you like to do?” business starting up without prompt.  The iphone 4s has the same issues but the difference is, the S2 can have a more powerful battery fitted the iphone can’t.  The S2 will play just about any media format as standard including iTunes, the iphone won’t.  I’ll stick with the S2 thank you.

My Samsung Galaxy S2 is rubbish for using as a telephone. Sure you can surf the web real quick, you can send and recieve emails excellently but try and talk on the phone side of it and everyone complains that its echoing at their end you turn the volume down and they say they can’t hear you. The comment I get most often when using the Samsung Galaxy S2 is – ” are you near a landline phone so I can call you on that”.
I rang the Telecom store on my Galaxy phone and the women there said “I’m sorry sir I can’t make out what your saying” I asked her name and went straight in to the store. I asked to speak with Cindy and said” You know the problem. How do we sort it? They sent it to get looked at. The Telecom Store says they have only had one other problem like this with the Galaxy. When I recieved it back they claimed they had done something with the software and it would be all sorted. Its not. What now? I’m trying to run a business and this is my main phone contact.I have to send my phone way to get repaired 4 x before they will consider replacing it – I don’t have the time for this

Seriously regretting getting a Samsung Galaxy S2 now – looked at the Iphone 4 at the time of purchase and should have gone with it.  After 11 weeks the S2 froze, got hot, wouldn’t start up or shut down or do anything.  Mobile service provider said our only option was to have it sent away for repair.   2 weeks later we get it back, when we try to find out what the issue was and what they fixed, they just said they did a software update and it could happen again – they said its “luck of the draw” and if it does we have to send it away again.  After 3 days the same problem came back – froze, got hot, wouldn’t start or shut down.  We refused to go through the same pointless saga.  Samsung customer service/support is TERRIBLE!!! They say that they do not offer replacement warranties, and will not answer our calls or emails.  We now are taking action, with the support of the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (we are in Australia) to get this resolved.  The ACCC said that the responses given so far are laughable.  We will also have the support of Consumer Trading and the Telecom Ombudsman here, the ACCC were not surprised by how we are finding Samsung so far (they seem to be aware of many similar issues).  My advice is AVOID SAMSUNG LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!! We have got some Apple products (Ipod Touch, Ipad) and their service when we had an issue with an Ipod was fantastic – replaced a broken Ipod for free, couldn’t do enough to help.  Wish we had gone for the Iphone……

I bought SGS2 in late Nov. I have had intermittent problem with similar issue. When I swipe phone to answer a call the call will connect, and you can see the icon of the person on the screen but hear nothing. Sometimes the call just hangs and the person on the far end is disconnected while other times when this happens the person on the far end can hear me but I cannot hear them. I have returned it to Samsung and they did a software sweep but found nothing wrong. I took back the phone and within an hour 2 of the calls I answered ended with the same result. The real problem is that it is unpredictable…most calls answer perfectly. I have seen on other discussion boards that this problem could be a software issue that could be solved by updating firmware but I think if Samsung are not able to fix it, I hardly will…Other comments greatly appreciated…

Mine has just started some of the problems listed here. Not switching off (well it does but then switches back on again) and a couple of screen freezing episodes. Will keep an eye on it then take it back to the shop to see what they can do….could be i phone replacing this if this keeps on happening.

On Sunday night, my Galaxy S2 (which is only 2 months old!) developed a screen flicker while charging. The screen also had an all over purple hue. I unplugged the charger and turned the phone off. The screen displayed the battery symbol, a yellow warning triangle and a small thermometer. I checked the battery and it seemed to be of a normal temperature – not hot or cold. I replaced the battery and tried to switch it on, but it would only turn on if the charger was connected. When the phone eventually did turn on, it appeared to be operating normally again. Monday morning I tried to plug in the car charger and the phone did not recognise that it was charging. Monday evening I turned the phone off to see if the problem had disappeared, it had not – I still had the yellow warning triangle and a small thermometer. Once again, I had to connect the charger in order to turn the phone on. This time, when I disconnected the charger, the phone was saying that it was still charging (battery symbol with lightning in task tray at top of screen). I removed the battery and the sim card and left them out for a few hours, but when I replaced them I still had the warning symbols. This time when I turned the phone on the it would not recognise the sim card and the phone was locked in flight mode. I tried the sim in another phone and it works fine. I tried another sim in my Galaxy S2 and it was not recognised, leading me to think that the problem is with the phone not the sim card. When going into settings, the phone says IMEI number unknown. The phone has been in this state until this evening. I have just restored the phone to factory settings and the sim is still not recognised. Although the phone is no longer locked in flight mode I still have no connectivity whatsoever (apart from wifi), and there is still no IMEI number or network recognized. I have searched these issues on the net, and they seem to be pretty common faults among Galaxy S2 users.

I took my phone to a Samsung approved repair centre yesterday. The engineer took one look at it and said it needed to go back to Samsung as it was a pretty major hardware fault and he couldn’t fix on site. He said he had one in last week doing exactly the same.

Just got a new Samsung galaxy s2, and it has been working fine. But earlier tonight while it was sitting on the counter, it called one of my friends. She answered, thought I had “butt-dialed” her, hung up, and called me back. I told her that I was no where near the phone at the time and couldn’t have called her. But sure enough, there was the outgoing phone call in the call history. Anyone else having this problem of it randomly dialing out by itself? It kinda freaked me out.

I use a bluetooth mouse when plugged into a monitor, I use a bluetooth car speaker and bluetooth headphones when exersising. Not having Bluetooth has ruined my beloved.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 LTE (i727r model) and it has Bluetooth connectivity issues with my Audi (07 A4 RNS-e radio).  I can connect when starting the car. Bluetooth will remain connected for a number of minutes, then the connection will drop. It’s completely random. Sometimes I can drive for 20+ minutes and no issues, sometimes I make a call and Bluetooth will drop several minutes after, sometimes it will re-establish a connection, the majority of times it won’t.

I’m wondering if there are background tasks running in the phone that cause the connection to drop.

    1. The time frame for the connection to drop is completely random
    2. The chance of the connection to re-establish is random (I’d say 70% of time it won’t reconnect).
    3. Turning the phone’s Bluetooth off/on will not re-establish.
    4. Rebooting the phone will reconnect, but it won’t hold a solid connection.

I have not tested yet with a Bluetooth headset (I will try this afternoon).

Samsung did a one-for-one exchange. The new phone was fine when I collected it. Next day the same issue cropped up! I thought it was due to some app I installed but when I went to the customer service centre, Samsung informed me that there is something wrong with the LCD screen or some hardware. What luck! I switched from iphone to android and now I’m beginning to regret choosing Samsung. Isn’t there some quality check of your phones?

I went back to the samsung shop and fortunately met a knowledgeable service staff who found the cause of my problem. It’s due to my screen protector covering these two tiny holes at the top left of your phone. Those two tiny holes are actually the phone sensors. If your screen protector covers those holes, cut your screen protector. The problem should be resolved.

Open an apps, hang. It hangs at every available opportunity! Then it has an amazing Phone Auto Off function. Amazing. I didn’t even realise my phone was off until I need to make a phone call. Phone is also lagging. 1.2 GHz DUAL CORE phone, lagging!!! OMG. Can you believe it?Then the battery sometimes wouldn’t charge. Can you believe it after I left the phone for more than 2 hours to charge, I came back with the phone shut off due to battery drained. The touch screen is over sensative. Sometimes I just wanted to scroll, it ended up clicking on the screen and opening unwanted apps or page! What the…And lastly, the TouchWiz is absolutely rubbish!! It is a total rip off from iPhone!!! To those who complimented the TouchWiz, please go try out HTC Sense!!I regretted letting go my HTC Desire. Yes, the first generation HTC Desire is way much better than this latest generation of Samsung Galaxy!!!!! I’m getting a HTC again. Trading in the Samsung Galaxy S2 after only 2 months using it. Other people cannot hear you, misunderstand, or just guess something else about what you are saying instead of hearing you. Sound quailty of microphones is very bad or they are incorrectly placed, that is the source of the problem as technical peopIe says. 4. The camera does not live upto the 8 mp tag.
    5. Frequent hanging.
    6. voice issues on calls.

I proceeded with a reboot (holding power button 6-8 seconds). Then I thought the phone was functioning properly until I noticed that it was waking from sleep mode by itself leaving the screen on. After putting the phone to sleep mode again by pressing power button quickly once, the phone froze again. Since then I’ve done a full factory reset without my Micro SD Card in and I still have the same problem. I am now trying to update the Android from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5

I have been having alot of issues on my s2 from random vibrating every 2 seconds continuously for about 30 seconds, to the phone thinking it has a usb/charging cable plugged in when.nothing is acutally plugged in. This is a massive pain as it gets in the way of the music player and other things. But worse issue I have had is if I pull the battery out or turn the phone off it will think its charging when no cable is plugged in but it will also show a battery icon with a yellow triangle with a ! Insode and a temperature bar next to it. It fails to turn on whilst in this phase but I think this is a hardware issue with the connectors within the phone and not a software issue. Shame really because the phobe is amazing but this (I would call) major issue is a huge problem as this causes massive battery power loss. Hope no other users have this issue.

Sim card may not be in place properly. this happened to me and I had to pull every thing undone again. It clips in when it is in place. ArtyDot

you have to set the calibration until it is in the right place. it is in the settings, then in display at the bottom

Try plugging the headphone jack in and out… It did the same thing to me and I tried it and it worked… Now I’m just trying to figure out why it tells me ” RECORDING FAILED ” every time I try the video camera.

I purchased my S2 in October, yesterday I woke up to find all my contacts had been deleted, not happy, I turned the phone off then rebooted it again still no contacts, I turned the phone off and took the battery out, replaced the battery, now all I get is the Samsung icon on the screen, then it goes off then comes back on again continuously, I can’t use the phone it wont let me in.

Every time I tried to charge my battery it charges for about two minutes then a message comes up saying battery disconnected… if i unplug it and plug it back in it works for about two minutes and then happens again…. takes forever to charge and you have to sit there with it the whole time to unplug and plug it back in again… it is a brand new phone its 6 days old

Bought the Galaxy S2 about 2 months ago and I’m already having battery problems. When i turn off the phone there’s a picture of a battery going on and off alternating to an warning sign and a temperature icon. Not sure what this meant so i went to the store i bought the phone at and they told me that it might be a software update issue. Has anybody had a similar problem and how do i fix it.

i was wondering if i was the only person with this. I bought my phone back in august 2011 and no issues at all, other than lousy battery life…which i solved with extended battery. then, about 5 weeks ago, i got the same symptoms you described. I thought it might me my new extended battery but, nope, when i put the old standard battery, the same problem appeared. It seemed to go away if i had the phone tethered to the charger, then it went one further and began turning itself on, after i would shut it down,
I live in the Philippines. I took it to the samsung tech and he re-installed ver 2.3.5 software….just to make sure that the softwear wasnt the issue…but what you described and not being able to turn the phone off reappeared. He finally said…”i think you need a new motherboard. He replaced it under warranty and the problem seems to have been solved.

I had a similar issue.  My data connection would just drop out and then connect again.  Sometimes after 5 seconds, other times it would take a few minutes.  I had it replaced and the new one seems to be better.

Hello everyone, I was deciphering on either the 4s or this one, since I had the 3gs I was thinking…hmm they’re kinda alike, “looks wise”. So I was taking a closer look at this one since it was so different. It intrigued me..so I bought it! The only thing that is killing me with this phone that the Iphone has is being able to talk through AUX in your vehicle. You literally have to put it on speaker mode while driving, before with my iphone I can just set it in dock and talk to my phone while I hear it throughout my speakers in my car. So this phone took a  huge negative impact on me now, if there is anything or anyone that knows how to fix this problem that would be great. To restore my faith in this new device. Also email me at indiomono2@yahoo.com

Thanks for whomever has a solution

Ive been having a problem with the speaker. It sounds very distorted I took the phone back the Sprint worker told me the circuit board was messed up which he said is surprising cause it was a malfunction of the phone and he got me a new one its now doing the same thing. Im going to either get a working one or going to the Iphone which is the last thing I want to do….

bought S2 2nd week of Dec, had it replaced with a new one due to echoing sound when you’re on phone with someone.  Got it back, bluetooth won’t auto sync on the car now/problems with outlook with the phone alone/it auto cuts off calls/calling the right number on the phone directory with a different name on it – in SHORT crazy phone. Any solution?
