Samsung Galaxy S2 or iPhone 4: Specs Comparison Breakdown

The two hottest smartphones on the market are the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the iPhone 4, shall we just forget about the iPhone 5 (4S) for a moment and do not let that sway your judgment.

We have two highly popular touchscreen smartphones and we thought we would put these two side-by-side considering all the latest news surrounding the Galaxy S2 sales smashing the iPhone 4 in Korea. We want to ask all our readers all around the world, “Which one of these smartphones would you choose?” Will it be the Samsung Galaxy S2 or iPhone 4?

This article is meant for our readers who do not yet own either of these mentioned handsets, lets looks at the spec differences shall we.

Display

The Apple iPhone 4 has a 3.5-inch LED-backlit IPS TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16M colours (640 x 960), it also features Scratch-resistant oleophobic surface, Multi-touch input method, Three-axis gyro sensor, Accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate and Proximity sensor for auto turn-off. The Samsung Galaxy S2 features a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus capacitive touchscreen with 16M colours (480 x 800 pixels), featuring Gorilla Glass display, Multi-touch input method, and Accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate, TouchWiz UI v4.0, Proximity sensor and Touch-sensitive controls.

Our Views on Display: Have to say the Samsung Galaxy S2 wins in this department.

Camera

The iPhone 4 has a 5MP rear camera offering 2592 x 1944 pixels, featuring autofocus, Touch focus, LED flash and geo-tagging. Comes with 720p@30fps video recording and LED video light, also comes with a front-facing camera for video call chats (video-calling over Wi-Fi only). The Galaxy S2 features an 8MP rear-facing camera (3264×2448 pixels), with autofocus, LED flash, face and smile detection, Geo-tagging, touch focus and image stabilization. Also comes with a front-facing 2MP camera and 1080p@30fps video.

Our Views on Camera: Have to say the Samsung Galaxy S2 wins this one, They are both good but the feel, use and picture quality of the Galaxy S2 camera is better.

Memory

The Apple iPhone 4 only goes up to 32GB storage max, and does not have an SD card slot. However, you can get the iPhone 4 in either 16GB or 32GB capacities. The Samsung Galaxy S2 has 16GB but does come with an SD card slot for up to 32GB cards.

Our Views on Memory: This is a hard one really, even though the Samsung Galaxy S2 comes with 16GB built-in and can house up to 32GB cards, we still would choose the iPhone 4 over the Galaxy S because the more memory you take up the more you have a chance of slowing up your phone. This one is down to personal preference.

Processor

The iPhone 4 is fitted with a 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor, PowerVR SGX535GPU, Apple A4 chipset, and the Samsung Galaxy S2 features a Dual-core 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A9 proccessor, Mali-400MP GPU, Orion chipset. iPhone 4 has 512MB of RAM and the Galaxy S2 has 1GB of RAM.

Our Views on Processor: Come on that is an easy one; the Samsung Galaxy S2 wins this department. 200 MHz more on the S2 makes this a clear winner especially seeing as it has 1GB or RAM.

Operating System (OS)

The iPhone 4 OS is more stable and established and more user friendly, we cannot count out the fact that the Galaxy S2 runs on Android, the Android OS did win as the leading operating system in such a short period of time.

Our Views on OS: Personally we choose the iPhone 4 and its iOS, but yet again this is personal preference. We do use Android OS as well as iOS, but we prefer iPhone. Sorry Android lovers, in time we may change our minds.

Battery Life

The iPhone 4 has a Li-Po 1420mAh battery offering up to 300 standby hours using 2G and up to 300 standby hours using 3G, you will get up to 14 talk time hours using 2G and up to 7 hours talk time using 3G. The Galaxy S2 has a, Li-Ion 1650 mAh battery offering up to 710 standby time using 2G, up to 610 standby time using 3G, you will get up to 18 hours 20 minutes talk time using 2G and up to 8 hours 40 minutes using 3G.

Our Views on Battery Life: Samsung Galaxy S2 wins this hands down, no doubting that one. Hopefully when the next-gen Apple smartphone aka iPhone 5 is released battery life will be more superior.

Overall Summary

The Apple iPhone 4 has been out a while now and it has already proved to customers it is a very powerful smartphone, it is very easy to use and feels fantastic. However, the Samsung Galaxy S2 has not been on the market for long and sales have already surpassed expectations. If we look at the specs above the Galaxy S2 is the clear winner and when you consider this phone is a little cheaper to buy than the iPhone 4.

If we had to put our heads on the line we would have to choose the Samsung Galaxy S2 over the iPhone, Apple really and we mean REALLY needs to go to the drawing board and release a much superior iPhone 5, iphone 4S, whatever you want to call it. Please let us know what smartphone you would choose above.

Memory is down to personal preference? You mean the display is down to personal preference? Dude, a 32GB sgs2 with 32GB mSD (64GB total) against a max. 32GB iPhone 4? No brainer!

No doubt, expansion slot is a huge advantage that the iPhone doesn’t have. GS2 clearly wins on that one. Too bad it doesn’t support the new SDXC standard, which would allow to go well over the 32GB limit. Still an amazing phone!

      1. Yeah I didn’t understand this either.

Yeah and all the memory is internal on the iphone where as you can get external memory on the Samsung Galaxy S2 which won’t cause much if any slowdown, Plus it’s such a fast/powerful phone it really doesn’t matter anyway.
The author of this article doesn’t seem to be that good at writing or doing reviews to be honest, there is a lot of room for improvement.

        1. I agree with u …also SGS 2 is 1.2 Ghz dual core processor against 1Ghz of iphone 4 ….. If iphone 4 can handle 32GB with 1 Ghz can’t SGS 2 handle it easily with Dual core….. Author has to edit it for unbiased review …

          1. yeah but 2 head is better than one, with the price being the same S2 is the winner.

so you would pick the iphone with 1 core because it can handle the 32gb even though they are of the same price? I think not

I’d be interested to know what aspect of the S2 screen you found superior to the iPhone 4. Was it simply the larger size? Was it also brighter or higher contrast? Easier to read in sunlight? More accurate in terms of touch recognition or color reproduction?

Writing that you “have to say” the S2 “wins” isn’t particularly informative.

    1. This article isn’t particularly well written to be honest. It could be more informative and better written but that’s just the case with online journalism.

The higher pixel count of the iphone will have it’s advantages for say reading text but in general the crisp, bright colours on the super AMOLED+ screen will be hard to beat for some time, it does black’s really well too, compared to other screens which have a sort of inky/greyish black. It’s a marvelous screen for games and movies and such. And it’s brilliant for browsing the web but it requires a little more zooming than higher resolution screens but that’s not a big deal really.

    2. Srinivasan Radhakrishnan says:

Hi, I think it boils down to AMOLED Vs. LCD and the difference it can make. Personally, I have always preferred AMOLED type for better contrast ratio (blacks are real dark) and fantastic saturation. Apple ramming in an extra-ordinary amount of pixels per Sq Inch into display and calling it Retina Display doesn’t automatically make it a better screen display.

Human eye cannot make out the difference in pixel density beyond a particular point. For example, we have compact digital cameras touting 12 mp etc. whereas even in Photo studios, professionals take pictures at 5 Mp range ! Many of my iPhone owning friends used to like HTC Desire’s AMOLED screen. Samsung takes AMOLED to even greater heights.

  3. i think i phone is better coz der is practically no virus at all for iphone…n its samsung… no updates for its operating system…. den wen a time comes dat every1 has bettr operatin sys. d samsung phone will remain same…is a lott of harassment …. m frenz xperience it 2oo… so i phone is betrr… n d app store…wow…

    1. You have terrible grammar, spelling and general English. If English isn’t your first language then it’s excuseable.

There are malware for any product with internet access out there: PCs, Macs, Phones including the iphone etc. But phone virus’ are very rare and as long as you’re not downloading illegal files from dodgy sites there’s very little risk, even so there is anti-virus for phones too now. So that really isn’t a valid point.

Actually the Samsung Galaxy S was upgraded pretty quickly and the Samsung Galaxy S2 has already received three firmware updates in the space of a month of it’s release so that’s not a valid point either.

From experience? What experience? Do you own the Samsung Galaxy S2 and iphone 4 and have used them both significantly?
Your points aren’t really valid and you clearly haven’t used the Samsung Galaxy s2 so don’t make such un-educated claims. The Samsung Galaxy S2 is an incredible piece of technology that makes the iphone 4 look outdated in almost every way. The App store is it’s only real remaining strength.

    2. lol, where do u put your brain PATEL? in your patella? hahahahahaha…go back to elementary and study english before u post anyhting in anywhere…and yeah, bout the virus, ur so damn lame…go to he-ll…android’s viruses, huh? smart a-s-s..

You know u can put all your text into 1 post I hope.
Now to your lousy observation. Even though iPhone 4 is over a year old the screen is superior! I have also SGII but I rather have smaller screen with higher pixel the bigger screen with lower pixel density. For readin/writingg text which I do mostly (now) the SGII isn’t so good as text get Pixely when to small. Also battery drops damn fast comparing to i4.
SGII is great for movies but I prefer my iPhone.

  4. Widgets, Live Wall Paper, True Multitasking with live apps, Live Instant Messenger, IM Push, Notifiaction and Customisation rocks

iOS misses so many good Features

  5. Tami Webster says:

i’ve got an s2… it’s amazing. i love it… I had an iphone 3g before this one and i find this far superior and it’s so customizable. I mean I have a comms badge widget set to call my boyfriend if I tap it (and yes it makes the sound!!!)

  6. i got an Iphone 4 2 days ago… though i wanted the SG2… but it felt so cheap in your hand… plus if it falls down and u did not got him a cover, the screen would easily ruined (that was my feeling actually)
personally i still regard the SG2 as a superior phone, and am a big fan of the live apps and all the Android stuff… but guys the samsung phones become cheap in a day… i mean i had the Omnia I when it went out… 3 or 4 months later its price went down tremedously… and 6 months later the Omnia II went out… such a bad feeling…

As a conclusion both phones are great i depends on ur taste… but i want to compare those phones t cars, i will say that SG2 is a Lexus and Iphone is a mercedes E class… and i am german car lover 😉

    1. adryan maldonado says:

just on the subject of the screen the SGS 2 may have that “feel” but what many might not be aware of its made of Gorilla glass which is extremely durable glass. So you might damage the plasticky case the glass for the most part but the glass will withstand most drops unless deliberately abused

      1. Carcrazyhoe says:

Samsung is made in Korea. So a comparison for the galaxy S2 would be the Korean Kia!!! The Apple iphone would be a Chevy Corvette!! Fast and BEAUTIFUL!!

  7. SUBHRONIL BOSE says:

samsung galaxy s2 is the best smartphone ever… it’s occum…it can compete n win against any other smartphones in the market…

  8. Jordan Draganoff says:

well accually the s2 and iphone 4 are about the same price. So you wouldn’t pick either phone just because of the price. Whoever wrote this article, maybe a little slowwwwww.

    lol

I am an avid Android fan and have been using SGS 2 for the past 2 weeks. The point about battery life – I think you should go beyond what’s printed on the spec sheet and find out how much does it actually last ! That’s actually one area and perhaps the ONLY area where SGS 2 lets you down terribly. My colleague who uses his iPhone 4 perhaps as much as I use by SGS 2 gets 1 day+ on his full charge. I get only about 8 hrs. Even Apps like Juice Defender Ultimate can’t seem to add much.

On all other counts – including memory, it leaves iPhone 4 as a vestige of past !

      1. Srinivasan Radhakrishnan says:

Sorry mate; no idea on alternative batteries as yet. I guess over a period of 2 months, I have learnt to live with charging 1.5 times a day ! Besides, with increasing Firmware versions, I hope it’ll eventually improve. For the great screen, nearly notebook type speed and excellent camera, under 2 sec GPS fix etc., I have learnt to overlook the battery barrier now 😉

  12. i currently have the galaxy s 2 and I love it! i had the iphone 3gs and ive used the iphone 4 many times but the galaxy is much better i would say best phone on the market atm!!

  13. Our Views on Memory:
This view is inaccurate as the phone as more internal RAM so it never slows down.. Upon use this is evident. iPhone’s slow down considerably as you add contacts and Apps, this is not the case for the S2.

    CPU:
iPhone 4 may use a 1GHz CPU but this isn’t the speed it runs at because it is under clocked

  15. FYI…
The S2 is dual core and ip4 is single core… So the S2 beats ip4 not by 200 Mhz, but by 1.4Ghz…!!
The S2 weighs Much lighter than the ip4…

Videos are much better on the S2 than the ip4 simply cuz of the larger, brighter, sharper display thanks to super amoled + display. You can also use the S2 is broad daylight unlike any other phone where you would need some shade to see the screen. Again, cuz of the super amoled+ and automatic display brightness control the display is simply beautiful…

The S2 can play any HD mobile game, thats out there in the world at the moment, better than any other phone that is present (including phones with similar or better hardware specs) It gives a higher frame/sec and is much smoother/faster.. You can also play games that are built specifically for Nvidia processors on the S2 without any issues..

The drawbacks though: The S2 can heat up a lot while playing HD games. The heat is from the powerful processor thats running inside giving u the great gaming experience.. This in turn has a negative effect on the battery life and can drain the battery in a few hours of HD gaming.
Added to the heat is the slimness of the phone. Its the slimmest smart phone in the market.. So the processor heat is that much closer to ur hands…

However, i only noticed this extreme heating issue if i load the phone suddenly from minimal usage to high performance usage. If i am constantly using the phone and using its apps and then later switch to high end games, the heat is really not an issue…

You can root the S2 (any android for that matter) but cant with the ip4. This will void the warranty though and is dangerous for users with not much idea about their phones…
Rooting in other words is gaining root access to ur phone and being able to access everything including the Samsung’s firmware.. You can modify everything thats in the phone and add new ROMS and do whatever u wish to at ur expense though (remember the warranty is VOIDED..!!)
Rooting also allows u to over clock the S2 upto 1.5Ghz giving a total of 3Ghz speed (dangerous if u have no idea).

Rooting also allows U to enhance the camera features and take backups of ur apps/data.. So in case u flash/format ur phone u can always recover it to the original state with all of ur data.

In other words, if u buy a S2 its truly urs… U can do anything u want to do with it.. U can install any non-android market apps as well… But in the ip4, u have no control over anything other than what apple whats u to control.. U can NOT install anything outside the itunes app store unless u do a jailbreak ( again, voids the warranty ).

In all, if ur fine with the heat OR if ur a power user who is annoyed with phones that have lower limits when it comes to usage, i would suggest the S2 over any phone in the market.. Its knows no bounds and can do anything u want it to… Its “simply the best”… !!!

  16. Juan Ramirez says:

Well I have used both, the iPhone4 for 10 months the Samsung Galaxy S 2 for 2 months. Lets split this as follows:

Battery Life: I could get a 8 am to 6 pm on the iPhone4 barely, maybe a 5% remaining on the battery. I am a heavy user who only relies on 3G for data. The Samsung gets around 12 hours maybe 12 and a half. So it is a point for the Samsung.

Screen: iPhone screen is great, I mean text is crisper really, but reading anything is pretty much the same (I use Kindle for android/iOS a lot) where the Samsung excels is in dark levels and color saturation, I mean it looks unreal if you play the same video with both phones you will notice the difference right away. I once realized how smallish iPhone4 screen looks like after placing it right next to the Galaxy 2 and an iPad. It’s one of those things that you don’t know what you are missing.

Data/Voice Signal: The Samsung comes with HSPA+ so theoretically it can reach 21 MBPs, it can reach a couple of MB more than the iPhone4, maybe my network is capped. I think but this is perception that I can go a little bit further in a basement talking with the Samsung that I can go with the iPhone and it is not the antenna problem since it has been on an iSkin cover since day 1. Pretty much both of them are solid sporting two mics, one to filter ambiance noise, calls sound natural in both headsets. Speaker mode is better in the Samsung, pretty much everybody used to tell me they couldn’t hear me or understand me with the iPhone in speakerphone which is not the case with the Samsung.

Finish: The iPhone is fantastic with all the glass and stainless steel around, too bad most of us immediately put it in a case. The Samsung is way lighter, a lil bit uncomfortable to handle since I don’t have large hands due to the size. It is so thin that sometimes I slip it in my pants and I don’t even notice it is there. About material quality it might be plastic but after two months of use without a cover I don’t have a dent or a scratch in the screen. Just yesterday decided to use Otterbox Commuter series and it feels really sturdy now and basically about the same depth as the iPhone now.

OS: I chose the Samsung because I was getting tired of the same old iOS, I’ve been using it for 3 years and it is still pretty much the same, I know it might be an ageless design but I grew tired of it. It is very easy to use, as my friend would refer to: “Even a Baby can use it”, it might not be the case with android but you have to like those live wallpapers, notification and easy to access of phone main things scrolling down from the top (I think it is because of the Samsung interface) I found all my apps from iOS in android market so I am not missing any of them and both OS feel pretty much alike in terms of browsing around the phone. One advantage of android is that everything is on the cloud, you don’t need a computer to do anything even the phone app (Kies) can transfer everything via wifi and you can via wifi transmit your multimedia to DNLA devices (tvs, ps3, etc).

Extras: Google apps runs better on Android (Youtube, Maps, Books, Docs, Calendars). Youtube has HQ for mobile and it really noticeable the difference in quality even with a lower dpi screen of the Samsung against iPhone4. Basically you can throw any media file to the Samsung and it will play (not just limited to simple encoded mp4). Bluetooth works as it should, you can pair your pc/mac with it and transfer files between pc/mac-phone, between phones, you can use bluetooth headphones and accessories without problem.

Camera: I found both of them outstanding in still photos or videos.

  17. Adrian Slade says:

I had two iphones in 2 months into a 12 month contract. I eventually got my network provider (who will remain nameless) to replace with a non Apple product after 4 letters and a threat of court action.

There are some fundamental issues with the iphone. Battery life. The Inability of the network provider to provide any level of service it has to go back to Apple. Having to book into an Apple store to have the phone looked at the by the ‘genius bar’. That in itself is an absolute joke – only when I refused to accept a Sunday booking did they replace the phone. Unable to remove or add memory cards. Apple support is non existent. Oh yes I am still waiting for a reply.

I have to say this was my first introduction to Apple products and will never entertain an Apple product again.

I exchanged this for a Samsung GS2. An incredible amount of features. Fast. Large screen. Light. I can add a memory card – micro SD – so if the phone goes down I can still retrieve what is important to us all and that’s the photos and videos.

Email works fine. If I suspect there is a weakness could it be App Store v. Android Market?

For the future? Well Google 12.5b dollar purchase of MM……………………………………..

Having used several apple products, the one thing I constantly take away from the experience is how reliable they are to use. From apple computers, ipads to iphones, they never leave you stranded.I’m currently using a windows operating system laptop for school, and doing some of the simplest task are harder on this computer compared to that of the apple users in my house when performing the exact same task. The IOS system is far more stable and never crashes, and this, which is a biggie,IS FAR LESS TIME CONSUMING!!I. Went today to check out the galaxy S2 at BestBuy. I was impress by its many features. The sales manager admited that the apple iphone 4S has the better voice command compared to the galaxy S2.The iphone SIRI does a far more acurate job of voice to texting and notes command. Can answer complicated questions with ease, something the galaxy S2 can not do,iho. Still i’m intrigued by the S2’s customizable flexibility.I will buy it in the next couple days to see if the phone is for real or just hype. The sales manager had the galaxy S2 as his personal phone.I will report back my findings.

I became a Samsung Galaxy S2 owner last week and i have to say that i am in love with this phone. I previously had its predessor and i liked it but when i update the firmware it lagged a lot more then before.

After reading some reviews on the Galaxy S2 i agree that the battery life on the phone is not that great, but im willing to overlook the battery life because i seriously dont have any issues with the current galaxy, unlike i did for the previous one.

So im giving the Samsung Galaxy S II a 10 of 10.

  19. Garyelder says:

I’ve been an iPhone user for just over 3 years. iPhone 3, 3G & now iPhone 4. Also purchased an iPad 2 this summer. But have to say that I’m disappointed in the iPhone 4s. I’ve been using this phone past 17 months & was really hoping for a new design so apple have done nothing to make me want to take a 4th consecutive iPhone. Also after 3 years of using the same iOS menu’s it’s become a wee bit boring. Seriously considering the galaxy s2 & excited about trying the android platform. Saying that apple iPhone & iPad 2 are fantastic pieces of equipment. Just really fancy a change!!!

    1. circulus says:

The problem with owning iPhones for any length of time is that any other device feels cheap, unstable, awkward, frustrating and generally annoying to use. I recently made the mistake of “upgrading” from my iPhone 4 to the S2 and have regretted it ever since. Stick with Apple if you’re used to Apple is my advice.

  20. Sharnabelle says:

I think I’m going to go with the Samsung. They both sound pretty good, but everything I’ve been reading seems to point toward the Samsung being the better option. I’m pretty sure after reading this article that the Samsung Galaxy S2 is the one I’ll get.

my bday is on the 16th…and i want to buy a the sg2..i was waitin for the iphone 5 but the 4s is bascially the same as the 4…i’m worried about wat i;m hearing about the sg2 built quality tho… i am buyin a case mate tougcase for it..so that shud make it feel better in the hands…wats ur views?..i reall want the best phone in the market..is it?

    1. I cant figure it out but why in the world do you think something is better because it is more expensive? so your telling me that you like the products you buy more when there overpriced and you like your products when they over charge you? I dont understand why a product is better because it is more expensive it makes no sense please explain,, sounds ludacris to me!

    2. Carcrazyhoe says:

I prefer my iphone 4S because its faster for internet downloads, has the best camera and video camera, iphone 4S’ music player is the most clearest sound with the best rocking bass, apple has the best reliability, has the most stable operating system,is classy looking and is made with the best materials, has the best trade-in value,(see how much you’ll get for the cheap looking Galaxy S2 two years later), theSamsung S2 gets viruses,Apple doesn’t, .Basicly buying the S2 would be because you want to follow a trend, the trend for looking for a phone with a one inch bigger screen,or the trend for looking for a phone with a built in GPS.Personally speaking, I like using my Garmin GPS as a dedicated device. Apple builds their phones to last for yearsss. That is why they have the best reputation in the business!!

      1. News says:

Just bought the Samsung Galaxy S2 – many people say I sound like I am talking from a deep well, or a cavern…I can hear well but am told I am coming in not loud and not clear.  AT&T refused to give me replacement Samsung.  I find it curious that almost no reviews focus on audio quality of the comparisons…is iPhone audio superior?

  22. Mark says:

I have already decided…bought a Galaxy.  And I have an ipod.  I was very disappointed with the the new 4S.  Great phone.  So so smart phone.

  23. jim crusan says:

Received my new Galaxy S2 today and damn is this thing fast. Coming from the original G1 and a Motorola Defy, both rooted and flashed, this is an absolutely killer phone. 32GB card installed, transferring 3GB of music and about 2500 backed up apps. Can not wait to root. So many Roms out there already for this phone. And did I mention the screen? WOW.
Going to have fun with this.

I have made my choice already .. and pretty happy with it with one exception::: Battery life isn’t that great.. at first it ran out of battery in about 12 hours of use (extensive since i was playing around with it alot) but now a days, after utilizing an advanced task killer, it usually keeps going from 8 am – to approx midnight.. which isn’t too bad..
Galaxy S2 is my preferred choice 🙂

I’m considering upgrading to either another apple phone, iphone 4s or a samsung galaxy S2.Have had a good experience with my 3GS and feel apple is quite reliable. But this time out,I want a phone that offers many options including but not limited to voice control texting & notes and voice control calling of phone numbers. What phone iyo,do these things best, iphone 4s with Siri,or the galaxy s2? Which company stands by their product more and what phone will be more reliable over time?

I never hear about any major problems with the iphone 4.There are about three other iphone users in my household.None of them have experienced any problems small or large with their phones. One member had a galaxy S1.Again no major problems.Enfact the phone was so nice somebody stole it.

I read the thread on this site about problems with the galaxy S2.My other question; is the galaxy a great phone that has not yet been perfected in terms of reliability and quality? Or, is the forum on this site about problems with the samsung galaxy s2,just problems that will be solved in short order, thus now is not the time to buy? Or are the problems experienced by some of the galaxy S2 owners, only a small percentage? Is your galaxy S2 user friendly and fun  to use?
    Thanks

Depends on what factors are more important to you.I to was deciding between the s2 vs 4s. S2 for flexibility vs 4S for ease of use and reliability.I went with the iphone 4s and let me say, best decision ever!  Great Great camera, lightening fast processor for internet use, brilliant quality materials, brilliant quality sound for all my music, and the iphone works wonderfully.I also know when its time to resale the phone for my next upgrade I will get a fair price for my iphone 4s.I like the samsung s2 but I never felt confident that the phone would be reliable over time.Beautiful looking phone(S2) and very nice features but I know about samsung reputation when it come to manufactoring it’s products.Apple build its products to last!! A apple phone and computer will work 5 years after you purchase it.Samsung does not have that same reputation.Samsung puts out a huge volume and the release date is not decided based on the quality of the product or the reputation of that product.

I had a 3gs apple phone and wanted to try a different company for the experience. After doing all my research I decided to stay with apple because the 4s phone is the fastest and most reliable phone on the market for internet use, camera quality, best music sound for a phone, and excellent features that make every day function fun and easier. There is a reason why the iphone feels like a luxury item.Because it is!!

    1. If by ‘Says it all’ you mean mindless consumerism then yes. iPhones aren’t bad phones and have their advantages but to buy a product simply because it’s made by Apple is ridiculous.

Here is my experience shopping for a new smart phone,S2 vs 4S. I did all the normal comparisons.Best camera, phone with best music sound, fastest processer for internet use, best quality materials, best long term reliabity service plan, company that stands by their phone in first tweleve months, most durable phone, ease of use, most operational options, which phone will last 3 or more years from purchase? At the end of my research and several visits to Best Buys, and reading numerous consumer publication mags here is my pick. iphone 4S has the better product!! .The samsung is a brilliant phone but I don’t feel the few added features to be worth buying a phone from a company(Samsung) that make products that are known to break down over a short period (less than 18 months)of time.Apple products are built to last for years.A apple phone or computer will work 5-7 years from date of purchase and work well.I bought the 4S and it is the best phone I have ever had.My sales representative at At&T has both the Samsung S2 and the iphone 4S.He has told me that he uses both but he loves his 4S the mos because of it’s more fun to use!!  Do your own research but for me I want a phone that makes my life more interesting a less stressful. Apple does that.

HI  well, after all these , i just decided to have iphone 4 coz it’s great.. ok.. i’m with you when you speak about long life battery but, i found something valuable than that.. it’s simply…… iphone . my brother bought galaxy s2 .. for me, i didn’t like it!! … actually, this choice depends on you however you choose..         Finally,…..   iphone 4 is the best ever (easier to use and not dry like what samsung galaxy s2 is)

Save your self some heart-ache.Buy the Apple iphone 4s.I went through the same should ifs.At the end of the day I looked at what I gain by buying the Samsung S2 vs the Apple 4S.The Apple does everything better except screen size,GPS and customization flexibility.Apple has better music player(music sound so much clearer and with better bass),better camera, better materials(Samsung materials feel & look cheap and fragile),the S2 has the bigger processor 1.2  vs 4S 1.0,yet the iphone 4S in test has proven to be faster in task(ie internet speed download) .

Apple has by far the better voice command(just command siri to set you a reminder for next week’s appointment or the next day, make dictations in note section or ask siri to solve math problems all while you are driving down the highway. You need only push one button, samsung S2 you have to push three buttons with a less reliable voice command software. BIGGEST OF ALL—–Apple cares about their reputation and stands by their products better than Samsung.

Samsung has the better GPS,better customization options, bigger screen.

Bottom line….Apple iphone4S—if you enjoy good music, excellent picture taking, video recording, build quality, enjoy having a peice of mind because you have a phone that is reliable and does as advertise,Apple is the phone to buy!!

Would all iPhone users and wannabes stop justifying the unnecessary premium they pay on cheaper material vs. costly materials debate please ! S2 sports excellent Gorilla Glass panel and the choice of durable plastic as opposed to metal is due to many things, not just to save costs. Samsung as a company, for a long long time, has supplied the likes of Apple, Sony and other major firms with lots of components, including LCD panels. The same ‘gullible’ public would pay for such premium brands not knowing which component was actually sourced from where.

There is nothing like cheap vs. premium. It all boils down to a simple tenet called ‘value for money’. If iPhone 4 charges more than twice what it costs to make, and its fans are willing to pay for it, so be it. S2 owners would perhaps be content to pay 1.5 times of what it costs to make. There is nothing ‘absolute’ about build quality.

S2’s performance is second to none. It’s a true mid-point between a phone and a tablet. Very sharp and vivid display, feels lighter in hand, excellent screen size for Video calls as well as movies/ youtube watching, impeccable transistor like speaker quality. What more does one want ? Metal casing for the ‘sake’ of metal ?

Android’s powerful ‘widget’ based icons are far superior to the ‘mug’ icons that one has to tap each time, in iOS, The notification bar functionality of iOS 5 is a neat cut + paste of Android functionality for long, but still
nowhere as good or easy to use. The absence of ‘back’ button is such a sore
thing in iOS that I feel Apple resists that for no better reason than not
wanting to be seen as a copycat. Else, it makes very perfect sense to have
        it as integral part.

I do have my preference for Android at the moment. But, I long for the day
when Mozilla or some other firm like that will release a free OS for
Mobile. World would be a much better place than souls surrendering their
intellect, loyalty and far more to few overlords like Apple, Google, MS etc.

BTW, for Tablets, I do own an iPad 2 and not any Android one for a very
simple reason – at 9.7″, if bought at $ 499 for 16 GB WiFi version in US,
it represents lot more ‘value for money’ than comparable Android ones. Yes,
Apple afficionados, it’s true that iPad 2 is actually ‘cheap’ – though you
may hate to admit it. There’s nothing wrong in offering a great product at
a great price. What Samsung does in mobile space, Apple does it in Tablets.
Neither of them makes their products inferior !

While we fandroids enjoy our phones, you ifans need to get a new overpriced iphone every 6 months 😀 but the truth is, I think galaxy s2 way better than iPhone 4. Maybe it would be more challenging to compare it with iPhone 4S?

  34. David James says:

I like the S2 but the single speaker is pathetic. The stereo speakers on my N95 8GB sound much better. It’s a shame that Samsung chose to load the S2 with such a poor speaker when so much else about the phone is so good.

Overall: its waayyy better than iphone…

im 14 and i got the Samsung Galaxy S2 white and its amazing the camera is such high quality i took a picture of a water droplet falling off a leaf. My friends say my voice comes through ever so clear and its so quick and can do everything the iphone can do but it has bluetooth that works and a much better camera. basically a much more updated version of the iphone.

    1. More durable? What planet are you living on? iPhones are far too fragile for an everyday consumer device. Most people I know who own iPhones have a cracked screen because Apple refuse to use Gorilla Glass which has time and time again stood the test of falls, drops, knocks and hits. It’s not invincible but it’s sure as hell a lot more scratch resistant and shatter/break resistant than the iPhone 4 or 4S flimsy screen.

  39. soef says:

Whats not mentioned is does the Samsung Galaxy have as many download apps like the iphone, can you put movies on it with great picture quality, still not certain which to buy, but this review helps.

    1. Fardin says:

That doesnt matter much… iphone with 500,000 apps and gs2 with about 250,00
BUT you dont need most of the iphone apps.. and 80% of them you hav to pay..
But for gs2 all of them are good apps and u need most of them and nearly all important apps are FREE! and yes you can play movies with full hd (1080p) on the gs2!

      1. I’m glad you’re supporting the Galaxy S2 Fardin but your statements lack accuracy or truth.

There are several hundred thousand apps for both Android and iOS. The percentage of apps that you have to pay for is irrelevant, there are free and premium apps on both operating systems, both have sales and temporary ‘free’ apps.

Not all apps on either phone are 100% good there are high quality and poor quality apps for both, though the general level of polish on apps on the appstore tends to be higher due to how controlled by Apple it is. You certainly do not require ‘most of them’ and not all ‘important’ apps are free but most of the apps you would get free on one device are free on the other.

The Glaaxy S2 can play 1080p files but it’ll only be rendering them at 800×480 resolution.
