iOS 5 iMessage, To Bury BlackBerry Messenger (BBM)

Apple announced its new iOS 5 today and within it is the new iMessage feature, this is apparently the BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) competitor, can it bury RIM is the question many will ask.

We are not making any statements here, but Engadget surely are saying that this is the final nail in the coffin for those that cannot live without BBM etc, read the full story here. Below is a little information about the new iMessage feature announced at WWDC 2011.

Apple brings a whole new messaging service for all iOS 5 users, you will be able to send unlimited text messages via 3G or WiFi from your Apple iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch to anyone who has these devices as well.

The new iMessage will be built into your Message app, which will allow users to send photos, texts, locations, videos and contact. You will be able to track your messages with optional read receipts and delivery receipts and even see what someone is typing. Yes it will give secure encryption for text messages.

Users will be able to start conversations via any iOS device where you left off on another; it integrates with the new Notification Center in iOS 5 and also allows group chats.

Do you think BBM will become a thing of the past now that Apple has introduced the new iMessage?
