Droid Charge Unofficial Gingerbread ROM Available

Now for those of you that own the Samsung Droid Charge on the Big Red network, you obviously know your are still stuck with Android 2.2 Froyo on your device as Verizon or Samsung still hasn’t seen fit to update your Droid device to Android 2.3 Gingerbread, but for those that don’t mind going an unofficial route you can have Gingerbread on your Droid Charge right now.

Apparently there is a leaked Gingerbread ROM for the Samsung Droid Charge available to download and install on your treasured device courtesy of the guys over at My Droid World; however as with most unofficial leaked ROMs there are a few things that still don’t work.

So here’s what doesn’t currently work with this leaked Android Gingerbread ROM (EG2), apparently text message sending is a no go while text message receiving is “spotty so is kind of a hit and miss situation,” the HDMI doesn’t work and neither does the Hotspot app, and there are some market apps that do not show up due to this being an unofficial ROM.

Obviously the leaked Android Gingerbread ROM comes with the usual disclaimer that if you do run into any issues and end up killing your Samsung Droid Charge then there will be no comeback to the guys who came up with the unofficial ROM in the first place so basically the usual applied and that you download and install said ROM at your own risk.

They do however supply a link if you need to downgrade your firmware for whatever reason and if you do downgrade to an earlier firmware you’ll need to grab several over the air update to get your handset back up to the current firmware version.

And that’s about it, so are you one to take that risk and grab this leaked Android 2.3 Gingerbread ROM for your Samsung Droid Charge, or are you one that would prefer to wait until Samsung and Verizon get round to releasing an official update?

Of course if you are a carefree risk taker when it comes to OS ROMs and you do go ahead and use this unofficial Android 2.3 Gingerbread ROM we would like to hear from you if everything went fine and you have no issues, or if you grabbed the ROM and have come across devastating problems, so feel free to give us your thoughts to our comments area below.
