64% of UK Smartphone Owners Play With Their Handset at Work

It’s probably enough to make bosses infuriated, but apparently on average 34 days per year are spent by Brits playing with their smartphone while at work despite smartphone usage being banned in the office, with the average Brit spending almost an hour toying with their device each day at work.

The figures showing work time wastage due to smartphone use comes from a survey of 2000 Brits that was conducted by LG Electronics to mark the launch of the new LG Optimus 3D smartphone, and has found that a whopping 64 percent of Brits admit to playing with their smartphone in secret at work.

According to the survey on average Brits spend 56.4 minutes playing on their smartphone, with the office toilets revealed as one of the top locations for secret smartphone playtime, while apparently one-in-four male respondents admitted to using their handset to access adult entertainment via the Internet while one-in-six use their device to flirt even though already having a girlfriend.

However, not everyone is getting away with sneaking off for some smartphone playtime as one-in-five have been caught and warned by colleagues or their employer to stop using their smartphone in the office.

Of those who took part in the survey, 20 percent said they have something stored on their device that could potentially cause them embarrassment if a fellow worker saw that content. When it comes to hiding a rather raunchy image on your smartphone 56 percent of men said they had, while 62 percent of females that were polled admitted to hiding a secret text massage on their smartphone.

Obviously the survey was done with promoting of the Android LG Optimus 3D in mind, which delivers the ability to view 3D content without the necessity for 3D glasses, and users can view both 2D and 3D content on the smartphone, not that LG is saying you should do so at work of course, but if you are contemplating picking up the LG Optimus 3D you can do so by hitting up Tesco, Carphone Warehouse, Orange, T-Mobile, Three UK and Phones4U.

So with this in mind we’d love to ask our readers if they sneak off when at work to play with their smartphone without colleagues or employers knowing, and if so where is your favourite place for secretly firing up your device? How long do you think you spend playing with your handset at work and of course have you ever been caught?
