Motorola XT316 aka Fire / Spice with Android 2.3 Gingerbread

Motorola has just announced its new Android 2.3 Gingerbread smartphone, this is called the Motorola XT316 aka Fire / Spice, the reason for the different names in dependant on different country releases. The Motorola SPICE Key and Motorola FIRE run on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and the Motorola XT316 runs on Android 2.2 (upgradeable to Android 2.3, Gingerbread in Fall).

This Android smarphone comes with many features and looks very fashionable, especial in today’s market. It offers full QWERTY keyboard with touchscreen display, the part we like the most is that you the case is interchangeable.

The China market can already get their hands on the Motorola XT316; it will also be available Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Latin America in Mid-July. The rest of Asia and in Europe will get the handset sometime this summer.

It features a 2.8-inch touchscreen display as well as stunning tools for texting, emailing and browsing the Web, it also gives users the simplicity to stay in contact on social networks via applications and a friends-centric widget to make it easier to manage contacts.

Main Features Include: Access to thousands of apps, 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen display, 3MP camera, Dual-band HSDPA/Quad-band EDGE, Full QWERTY keyboard, MicroSD card slot up to 32GB, Moto Switch UI allows users to switch from different modes, Access to Google Maps Navigation / Google Talk and web browsing, FM Radio with RDS support, Wi-Fi b/g/n, GPS.aGPS, E-compass, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, accelerometer, plus LED notifications and 3.5mm audio jack.

The phone comes with a 1420mAh battery, providing users up to eight hours of talk time and 30 days of standby in 3G modes.

It also comes with 600MHz Qualcomm MSM7227-1 processor; 256MB of RAM, 512MB of ROM, the features seem ok. The question is “Is this a good enough smartphone that you would buy?”

This Motorola XT316 price tag is around about $230, the Fire and the Spice will be around about the same price.

There are many Android smartphones releasing this year, and personally this one does not offer anything exciting. Smartphones need that little extra technology to make it a buying option in our eyes, all we say is “Good luck making amazing sales with this one”. What do you think readers; get the comments rolling please as we would love to read your opinions.

For more information please read the full press release here.

As soon as we get more information about this smartphone we will let you know, it should have come with a dedicated Google+ button as this makes it unique.

I think is a good option with both physical keyboard and touch screen. the processor for my taste is a little bit weak for a good android experience, also there’s no GPU that could help the somewhat weak processor. I personally use a milestone 2 and I’m really happy with it, except for the weak wi-fi signal.
