The iOS 5 update is getting everyone excited at the moment, iOS 5 beta 4 is now available to developers, which means it is nearly ready for public release. The new Apple software seeded to devs now includes OTA (Over-the-Air) updates; we will also mention a little about jailbreaking it with RedSn0w.

Public are you getting ready, the first iOS 5 beta was released to developers on June 6, the second release was June 24, the third July 11 and yesterday July 22 the iOS 5 beta 4 was release.

Developers can now update via a wireless OTA update, all you need to do is open the General tab within your Apple device settings app and then go to Software Updates. You can still visit the Dev Center if the OTA does not work so please do not panic.

iDB also reports that you can jailbreak the new iOS 5 Beta 4 with RedSn0w, before we let you know more about this you MUST be aware that if you use the new Beta 4′s OTA feature it will not allow you to keep your jailbreak, so in a nutshell stay away from this feature if you wish for the jailbreak to work, simply download the new iOS 5 Beta 4 like normal to your computer and apply the update manually in iTunes.

The brand new jailbreak tool RedSn0w update is for a tethered jailbreak on iOS 5 Beta 4, lovely as they say. If you are not a developer it is recommended you stay away from this jailbreak, RedSn0w will need to be used each time you reboot to re-jailbreak your iDevice.

The Dev-Team blog Explains: “Update #4: In conjunction with iOS5 beta4 being released to iOS developers, redsn0w 0.9.8b4 is now available for jailbreak app developers (point the b4 redsn0w at the b4 IPSW). Remember, it’s a tethered jailbreak right now so you’ll need to use redsn0w to boot into a jailbroken state at each power cycle. NOTE: It appears that by design, the OTA update that became available starting with iOS 5 beta4 will *not* be automatically applied to jailbroken devices. That’s a relief to those who don’t want to lose their jailbreak via OTA pushes. If you’re jailbroken, you’ll need to use the standard iTunes method to get to iOS 5 beta4.”

Just point the new RedSn0w to your Beta 4 IPSW file; the source above mentions that the jailbroken beta firmware can tend to be very buggy.
