I used the LG updater tool and had no problems installing 2.3.3. update. Battery life has improved slightly and no impromptu reboots since installing. Phone is very fast. Only complaint is that we lost the LG camera feature with the update. Hoping to get that back.

      Hello folks,
Could anybody send me 2.3.3 update? LG updater giving up to date message to me, but it’s 2.2.2 in phone?
      Thank you in advance.

  2. I have no complaints about the new version, but as a warning I did have trouble with the OTA update process, due to having the nvflash version of Clockwork Mod on my phone. I had to use the LG updater, but it worked like a charm. However, when I attempted to make a backup using Clockwork, unbeknownst to me it had been removed, so instead of booting into CMod I triggered the built-in recovery mode on the G2X, which factory reset my device. Not fun. They really need to give you a warning prompt for that mode.

I did make a backup prior to the update, so I can revert back and re-push the update to fix everything, but the SuperOneClick rooter does not work for the G2X with Gingerbread yet, and I did not have much luck doing it manually, so I am stuck in stock-unrooted hell for now. 🙂 Just a warning to anyone else using Clockwork on their G2X.

I used the LG self update application about a week ago to update and it went fairly smoothly. It does fix the unexpected re-boots, and the whole system runs much smoother then it previously did with fro-yo. but some problems i have been seeing it turning on the device take a min or two longer then it previous did, when typing sometimes in the native applications the keyboard seems like it is frozen, only too put the word in place when you hit the space key. Also I’ve noticed when i hit the home button sometimes it takes me back to blank homepages that to get the apps and shortcuts back I have to power it off or go into a app and close it again. Also the phone has a back light LCD bleed, the problem has been plaguing the g2x sense the launch, but that didn’t bother me as much because fro-yo had a white color scheme and one would only see it if your watching media like a movie in the dark, but now with 2.3’s black color notification bar the bleed is much more noticeable. Another problem I’ve noticed with 2.3 update on the g2x is that the capacitive buttons at the bottom of the screen freeze up when the phone is in normal use in a app, and the buttons don’t give any vibrating feedback to touch until one puts the phone on stand-bye or turns it off (out off all the problems this occurs less frequently then the others). The last problem is LG went with 2.3.3 instead of 2.3.4 which means no google talk video calls which would be very useful because I’ve found it almost impossible to connect to anyone using the qick video chat client.
But on the bright side, i am getting around a small battery life boost when the phones in airplane mode, but when its not the battery goes at just the same rate if not faster as before, such as yesterday i had the charge at 100% at 6 am then, by 2 pm my battery was at 35% with average use. Then i charged it to 90% at around 3:30 and put it on airplane mode and the battery lasted me until around 2 am with constant audio playback, which i would not have been able to get with the fro-yo, but in general this phone has a fairly poor battery life. Another plus is the sleek new 2.3 interface which feels much class-ier and more on par with a iPhone’s level of sleekness in the operating system. Also the phones update fixes the problem where when waking the phone from stand-by the unlock bar doesn’t seem to recognize your first pass at unlocking it. Also the new stock keyboard is actually really good, even good enough for me to switch from swift x to it. Any text selection/ copy and paste has been given a major update.
But the one part of the phone which i wish LG would have not updated was the camera. They removed there own custom interface, along with it alot of features that made the 8 mp camera shine in favor of the stock interface. No longer is there a option to shoot i 1080 p don’t believe and the interface for the camera is annoyingly buggy! It almost feels as though i have a resistive touch screen at that point, trying to use the onscreen zoom control which is the only way to zoom, LG removed support for the volume rocker, and it very difficult to change any settings within the camera due to the fact when opening the pop-up menus to change them, and one trys to select something the screen recognizes the taps differently then the command one gives, like when i try to zoom, i press the zoom button and a pop up comes out of the button, and when i press the slide bar the phone becomes buggy and the bar just jumps around on the zoom bar. This occurs on other menus in the camera too, giving the feeling like the menus don’t fluidly follow your scrolling gestures. Also the phone recognizes the elongated tap as the user wanting to pull up the shut-down menu at some points. The zoom is slower and the camera is lacking in basic settings. No longer can one change the ISO (though that is not basic), no longer can one choose where to save pictures too, no longer can one turn off the annoying beeping sound when using the camera without out putting the phone on mute. Also it seems like the auto-stabilization doesn’t seem as active if even there all together with the fro-yo build, it compensated for any slight movement but with the 2.3 build it seems as though even with any small movement or shake made the entire picture blurry.
So i would take the update with a grain of salt, and if any user has found any fixes to any of the things i mentioned, or have been experiencing similar problems to the ones I have it would be great to know or even if you haven’t been experiencing them telling me its just my phone. I tried to list as much as i could of the major things that were changed as possible, which i guess added up to alot a became a rant about the flaws. Im wondering if there were any changes between the LG self update a week ago and the OTA update for t-mobile, though i find that doubtful.

If i had to take any guess, its beacuse it is taking longer to edit 2.3.3 for the skin that LG is useing on it. The g2x is stock android, meaning they don’t have to really write a special skin for it which saves time. Also there were some bugs in the g2x that caused the phone to become a giant frustration and i think LG might of prioritized it beacuse of that

  6. the update has went horrible i got an update for it this morning via ota clicked on it and said approx 10mins to install….45 mins later nothing just a box with droid guy frozen on screen so i try to reset it and take battery out and all i get is the lg logo come on then shut off constantly…so i go to the tmobile store where i got the phone from and get nothing but B.S. from them saying its not their problem its LG ..So frustrated i leave and then call t mobile support and actually got some walk throughs on trying to actually reset the whole phone but to still no avail..so she said she would send me another new phone next day…so here i sit with no phone and still upset on why T mobile does not have in store switch outs ..if u are listening t mobile you need to step this service up because i am very displeased at ur in store reps that flock to you when ur looking to buy phones from them and spend ur hard earned money but when u have problems they wanna blow you off…and use the excuse its not tmobiles problem its Lg…Well get a clue guys u sell Lg so u need to service them as well….Truly yours very upset in Ohio ..especially what i pay you guys every month for ur 2g service..

  7. I just purchased the phone. My husband already had it and convinced me to get it. I love taking pictures and I loved how I could change the settings etc…. However with the update I cant change any of the freaking camera setting but exposure etc.. I really liked the shot mode in my husbands phone that I now cant get to the the updated verson. Not Happy about it what so ever. Change the photo stuff back or at least make it possible to get into the freaking camera settings.

I’m having a real disaster too. The G2X with original Android OS (2.2.2) would lose network every time I added an app – resulting in constant “Force Closure” messages. Many is the time I had to do a factory reset, lose everything, and start over. Staff at the T-Mobile store suggested upgrading to Gingerbread by connecting the phone to a PC. First try looked like it worked – and quickly. It didn’t. Back to the T-Mobile store and told to try again. Apparently OTA never worked at all – perhaps because of the constant “Force Closure” problem. Every time there was a “Force Closure” problem the phone had no network connectivity. The Gingerbread update from the PC finally began to work. When it got to the actual update portion of the process (after about 20 or 25 minutes) it would not go beyond 5%. After many confusing messages (I’m guessing due to poor translations from Chinese to English) about disconnecting the cable, taking out the battery, and reconnecting, the phone is now stuck with the message “S/W Upgrade Please wait while upgrading . . .”, and the PC SW upgrade interface won’t recognize the phone anymore. So I basically now have something you can use to skip across the pond. In the middle of all this trouble, between the first attempt to upgrade to Gingerbread and the second visit to the T-Mobile store, the phone got wet. Getting wet didn’t change any of the phones behaviors, but it sure gave the T-Mobile store reason to be absolutely unhelpful – even though all the trouble started before it got wet. After 8 years as a T-Mobile customer I’ve about had it with T-Mobile and LG phones. This has been a totally bad experience from the very beginning and I am not a happy customer. The G2x never worked from the start and if the problem had been addressed immediately rather than being put off this all would have ended quite differently. I’m very frustrated and dissatisfied.

Try rebooting android bij holding POWER button + VOLUME button.
Hopefully it will bring you back in Android… I’m starting to dislike my phone on a daily- base…Android 2.3.4 made it very slow and it continuesly crashes…

Absolutely HATE 2.3 on the g2x! 2.2 had an awesome camera and when I updated my phone to 2.3 the camera was completely replaced by a low quality version absent of the manual brightness feature that I loved with 2.2…you could take great pictures and video in low light without flash…now your options are incandescent, cloudy, etc…all of which are dark and orange. HATE HATE HATE 2.3!

    1. Nancir59 says:

I can’t agree more. I am so regretting to updating to 2.3. The camera absolutely sucks now. Every picture is dark and there is no way to adjust the brightness. I hate my phone now. I wish I could get the old 2.2 camera back!!! Ughh….

  12. Dragan Serbia says:

I was thinking to buy this phone, but I wanted first to see if it will show version 2.3 … Now that version 2.3 is finally released, and after reading your comments, I would not have bought it even it is free! I’d rather spend my money on a less stressful phone, like Samsung Galaxy R!! All the best, cheers!

  13. Guest says:

I tried the update and the phone was stuck in the updating screen.  Several calls to LG and T-mobile had me pull the battery multiple times, do a master reset by holding the power key and down volume key simultaneously at start up and nothing would budge the phone out of the update screen.  Everytime the LG update program tried to do the update it would not receive the correct information from the phone because it was locked in a later update mode.  Deleting the programs and reinstalling did not help.  LG agreed to fix the issue.  What a pain this phone has been.  When working it is awesome but the reliability is less than half the time which makes this phone incredibly annoying.

  14. Im so sick of this phone! Waited for months for it to come out, and at this point completelly regret it. Before the update the phone was unstable and would crash maybe once a week, now after the update not a single day goes by that it doesnt crash at least once. When you consider Im using the phone for business this is totally unacceptable. The new camera is horrible as well by the way. As of yet have not seen any advantage at all in updating to gingerbread and really regret having done it.

There should be a class action lawsuit over this phone as it is without a doubt a lemon.

I have an Htc sensation, the voice chat works great in it, so whu does it not work with my G2X. I would appreciate your help.. Thanks

  19. Greg says:

The Up-grade seems to make my G2X run a bit faster and smoother but the Camera STILL SUCKS!   It takes the worst pics of any phone I have ever owned!  Same goes with the You Tube pre-loaded app!  The ONLY time I can use it is if I’m within a hot spot zone!  IF you are going to pre-load an app on a phone it SHOULD work or why bother to even have it!

purchased Android 2 wks ago via Phila Metropcs: the worst performance ever… gets so hot w/i 6 minutes, calls drop and ring often not happening.  Back at dealer (NO Support) twice last visit  told shop keeper I am ready to throw the unit up against his wall.  very unhappy!  battery life non existant, hoped for better when first selected this unit.
