Gingerbread Update for Kyocera Echo Halted

Oh dear it appears that owners of the Android 2.2 Froyo Kyocera Echo who have been patiently awaiting to be updated to Android 2.3 Gingerbread would have been cock-a-hoop with joy that Gingerbread was finally being rolled out to their device yesterday, however apparently that rollout is somewhat short lived.

According to an article over on Sprint Feed, Sprint has now halted the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the Kyocera Echo and with no word on just when the update will again begin hitting Echo owner’s handsets.

The reason for the rather rapid suspension of the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update is apparently due to some Kyocera Echo owners reporting performance problems and apparently some have reported that the operating system update has actually bricked their device.

Ouch, I know what it is like to see your smartphone bricked by an update as recently my own Samsung Galaxy S was bricked when trying to grab the Gingerbread update via Samsung Kies, something I did rant about in a previous post, and I have to say seeing your handset bricked is frustrating to say the least.

Apparently the word is that Sprint’s Now network is working to resolve the problems with the Android OS update and hope to have a re-launch date for the update as soon as possible.

Have to say though, it’s far better to pull an OS update to make sure it is working sweet rather than have it roll out and brick numerous handsets, don’t you agree? So for now anyway, it appears that Kyocera Echo owners will have to toodle along on Android 2.2 Froyo for the foreseeable future.

Feel free to shout out in our comments area below if you own a Kyocera Echo and have had you smartphone bricked or are experiencing problems after updating to Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
