Android Ice Cream Sandwich Handsets Coming Oct?

As you may be aware the next release of the Android operating system by the Google guys should be Android Ice Cream Sandwich, which is rumoured to be able to run on both smartphones and tablets, but it isn’t clear just when Android Ice Cream Sandwich may come out to play, however that may now have changed.

Apparently the guys over at the Boy Genius Report are saying they have heard from an unnamed source “with knowledge of Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich plans,” and apparently this source has stated we could see devices sporting the Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS as soon as October.

So why would the Google guys be pushing out the next Android operating system this early? Well apparently the guys have heard that the upcoming release of the iPhone 5 may be the reason behind the October date.

Apparently as the word is Apple is expected to deliver their next generation iPhone in September or October, Google doesn’t want to risk potential customers with ending contracts shifting away from Android to get the new iOS smartphone.

Of course none of the above has been given any confirmation either way from the Android camp, but if true then it would appear that Google is a tad fearful that some of the Android faithful may just defect from Android over to iOS and the iPhone 5.

Having said that, I’m pretty sure there are plenty of new Android handset on the horizon that could manage to keep the Android faithful onboard, that is of course if the makers find a way to actually halt the constant delays to releasing a new device such as the Motorola Droid Bionic.

Obviously if this latest piece of scuttlebutt about Android Ice cream Sandwich is true, then there is obviously no word on what devices the new operating system would make its debut on, but whatever it is one thing is for sure, it will make a reasonable splash in the mobile space.

So based on this latest piece of OS gossip, I’d like to ask the Android faithful out there a question, would you consider shifting your loyalty over to Apple when they release the iPhone 5 or are you a hard and fast Android supporter and wouldn’t swap to iOS no matter what Apple gear offers?

Feel free to voice your opinions as to why you would change to the iPhone 5 or why you would stay with Android to our comments area below…many thanks in advance.

No chance. There are some good things about iOS and iDevices, but overall, they’re too limited for my needs sometimes to the extent of being childish. Android is my mobile OS of choice. WP7 is my second.

I’m thinking of moving to Android from iPhone.. With Androids can you update the os on your device or are you stuck with the one installed on purchase ?

Apple is overrated and to limited for my liking, I am an individual it just does not allow the user to do the things I want and I don’t want the same looking phone as everyone else.

I will be looking forward to the new features of ice cream and now HTC is going to allow boot loaders on there phones this will be great for the development community. I am sticking with Android for the moment as I can have an infinite possibilities for styling and layout with out having to ask Apple for permission.

Android all the way.. but having said that I do believe they need to stay on top of their game cuz Apple will give them a run for their money. The minute they think they’ve done enough and stop improving their product they’ll get buried by Apple.
