HP TouchPad Sale Complaints: Has Your Order Been Cancelled

Keeping this short and sweet but to the point is the HP TouchPad Sale complaints, after hundreds of emails sent to Phones Review asking many questions such as, where can I buy the tablet PC for under $100, are they sold out everywhere, and emails we are receiving the most is “My HP TouchPad I ordered has been cancelled”.

Many online retailers such as Best Buy, Sam’s Club, Target and Barnes & Noble were selling the HP TouchPad dirt cheap with some selling the tablet’s for less than $99, many customers saw this as an opportunity to buy as quick as possible to bag a bargain, and of course because news flooding in that the Android operating system would be ported to the tablet; aka TouchDroid.

Personally we here at Phones Review say “Do not hold your breath for the Android port, as you will pass out waiting”, maybe one day the HP TouchPad will get the port but cannot see it happening this side of 2011.

We are getting the most complaints via Barnes & Noble customers, they say that they have ordered their HP TouchPad only to receive an email a few days later notifying them that their order has been cancelled, we can see why they are getting angry as they really thought they bagged a bargain of a lifetime.

So we are calling out to ALL customers that ordered the HP TouchPad Tablet PC, we would love to know if you received your device you ordered or has it been cancelled.

If you wish to complain about you purchase please do so in the commenting area below, please state what online store you shopped at and when you ordered, we would like to know if you received your purchase or not.

If customers ordered the TouchPad only for the purchase to be cancelled, do you think those that missed out should be compensated in some way or form?

    Thank you for making me laugh this morning. The company is losing money on the tablets they are selling at the lower rate just to get rid of inventory. I laugh at you for even thinking that anyone would be compensated. If anyone thinks that they should be its a shame. Talk about kicking someone while they are down.

  3. My order was cancelled yesterday at Amazon. What a bunch of idiots! Amazon let people buy tens of HP touchpad in a single transaction to sell later on ebay, or on their same site indeed, at double and triple price (see for example this item on ebay: 110734525101, it seems that this mate bought 50 units, just hope that HMRC will catch him). Eventually, Amazon have a mess to solve just to earn a few peanuts and thousands of angry customers, while the usual suspects are earning hundrends of pounds doing nothing from people who dont care at buying an obsolete brick

      If everyone was so desperate to get one why would you not pay full price because it obviously means alot more than $150 to everyone that’s moaning.

  4. 3 touchpads cancelled and one Pre 3. Had I got them all I would have kept two and the pre 3 and passed the extra one on at cost to someone who actually wanted one. Too many scalpers who somehow picked up 50+ selling them for over 200 a piece. But whatever life goes on.

  5. My girlfriend and I both ordered 16gb touchpads from Barnes and Noble on monday, when they showed in stock. They were out of stock an hour later, but neither of us were told our orders were canceled until the 24th, when it was too late to find them anywhere else.

  6. I ordered the 16GB Touchpad from Barnes & Noble & the order was accepted & after a day I got an email saying they don’t have it in stock & So, they cancelled my order. Its so disappointing. The only way to compensate it is to send us one.

    ‘We had ordered 2 for our boy’s for Christmas gifts from Amazon. 3 days later Amazon sent us a notice that the order had been cancelled! It is upsetting, but what can you do! 🙁

  8. Ordered at Barnes&Noble, order accepted and then found out it was cancelled by checking on the order online as no other emails from them. Very disappointed, not sure I will be shopping with them anytime in the future as a result. Only way to compensate is to honor the original order.

  10. ordered from BN, they tied my money up for 4 days so far, and gave me a shipping date like 4 hours after placing my order for 8/24, when I checked my order status… sealed deal right? SO I went ahead and purchased accessories for it… just to receive a cancellation e-mail 3 days later. Not only did they deprive me of my money for the time, but also gave me misleading information, which prompted me to purchase accessories, on which I now will have to eat the restocking fees, and some, I am not able to return, because, the vendor informed me “before” my purchase, “ALL SALES ARE FINAL”
    Barnes and Noble screwed many customers, robbed them of the opportunity like myself, to look elsewhere for the HP Touchpad, by confirming our orders, based on that it mentioned that our accounts wont get charged until our item is ready for shipment, and that we were not able to make any changes to our order when checking on our order status, because it was locked for shipment.
    BN, you lost me as a costumer for life, because of poor ethics, and lack of costumer compensation…
    As for the multi Nook Color spam you were sending me for the 3 days it took you to cancel my order… already own one, but will retire it, and will NOT recommend it to anyone else anymore, based on the way you treated me as a costumer, and others.

    Amazon sent me an email the day before it was supposed to get her telling me my order was cancelled. I was furious, but what can I do? I’ll wait for the second round of devices… if it comes.

  15. Same for me, had an estimated shipment and delivery date but I was gutted to see my order cancelled. I think if Amazon get more stock, they should prioritize the units to those who had placed an order that was later cancelled.

    1. I waited 3 days before getting a cancellation from B&N so you got lucky as I put off buying one from elsewhere (even when had the opportunity to)! At least knowing earlier gives you more of a fighting chance elsewhere, sorry you didn’t get one either tho.

Yes, they should be compensated, like BundleBox did (gave 20% off next order) for their customers whereby the supplier (B&N & Amazon UK in a lot of cases) cancelled the order without a sorry, just a “yeah, well manufacturers cancel their stuff all the time ‘innit!” kind of email! It is disgusting to see that smaller companies are giving more of a sh*t than the more established ones – I suppose it’s the mantra of “we’re big enough that one lost customer does not matter”, I would be ashamed to work for either of these companies.

      1. Mine was done on August 23 08:34:46 EDT 2011, but not cancelled yet. Still pending for review. I think I’ll contact my BCC Corporate to order a chargeback, since it’s very unlikely I’ll get my Touchpad.

  23. Place an order through Amazon for one and was notified last night that I was cancelled. Apparently Onsale just kept accepting orders for them and when they realized that there weren’t enough to go around, they sent out the orders that paid for overnight shipping instead of the orders they got first.

    Amazon even went to go so far as to delete the orders off their customer’s order pages which is really super shady to me.

    HP suggested it would be shipping more units to retailers (and have them available on its own site). Hence, last night the page on the HP website said “Out of Stock” but added “Coming Soon.” The “Coming Soon” part vanished this morning. So who knows what will happen, but if more units emerge, it will be a crap shoot as to who jumps fast enough to snap one.

    Ordered a 16 gb for BARNES and NOT SO NOBLE at 08:21am on 8/22/2011. My order was accepted and a charge of $114.00 appeared on my paypal statement. That night I got a cancellation email stating my order was cancelled. I think they should delivere what I PAID them for or compensated.

  26. ordered 2 HP TOUCHPAD from BN online, they actually charged the money, then cancelled the order.
    a day prior to that, ordered 2 HP Touchpad from Amazon, 3-4days later says it has been cancelled, and my money has been charged also!
    You cannot just charge people money then cancell the order.
    Dishonest retailers, I will never buy any BN stuff in my life time

  27. I bought hpp touch pad and was happy.Next day, I received an email that my order was cancelled.but, i was charged for it. Why do they take order if there is no availability of the product.. I think they shoul give renumeration for their mistake

  31. I ordered my hp touchpad on sunday from Amazon and a day before the order was to be delivered i received a mail my order has been cancelled that is not fair. If they had to cancel my order they should have told me at the time i bought not 3 days later.

  32. We ordered from Barnes and Noble and the order online said it was processing and going to ship today, later Monday night my husband got an email saying canceled. As soon as he clicked place order they put a hold on the money in our bank acct. Its yet to be release back in! And it even says they wont debit your acct until it ships…what gives?!

    i ordered 2 from B7N on sunday at 7pm est, just to get a email on monday at 9pm est that is was cancelled, also ordered 2 from HP small/medium busniess site sunday at 1pm, 2 separate orders, got a confirm email yesterday in the 2 later order, when got a confirm email on the erilaier order one day later (go fig). not i dont know wth is going on if i get it or i dont. let see what goes down

I have spoken to a customer care rep to verify that the order has not been cancelled and was told that I made it in on time, they also told me that they are in the process of mfg new devices to fulfill the current orders. I just have to wait for them to make more of them. At least I am guaranteed my three.

    Ordered mine from Onsale on amazon, I called macmall customer service on wed the day my tablet was supposed to show up to find out that my order had been canceled. Personally I have no grudge against amazon and will continue to shop there, as far as onsale though I’m very disappointed in the way they handled this situation, there was no communication what so ever with the customers (I emailed them on monday to check the status of my order, never heard back from them till wed afternoon when I got an email after I called saying my order was canceled). Once Onsale figured out the error a simple email would have done wonders, and it would have helped those of us who stopped looking after ordering from them.
    Again I say deals come and go, and I’m sure that there will be a tablet in my near future I also understand that it’s not reasonable to ask amazon to fullfill the orders that were canceled but a discount towards a different tablet purchase would be more than appreciated.

    I bought one from B&N using my PayPal account, which transferred the funds to B&N instantly. I was so excited to get such a good deal and it was going to be a Christmas present, for someone very special in my life. Regrettably, only 8 hours later, I got the email from B&N stating that the order was canceled. Needless to say I was quite pissed. After I calmed down, I realized that there were probably thousands of people that had also been shot down in the same way. Compensation would be nice, but as long as my money is refunded, I guess I should be happy.

    Order mines from Barnes and Noble at 4:30 a.m. Received confirmation email so I thought I was fine. 14 hours later I get the cancellation email. I sent an email to customer service asking for why it took so long to notify me. 4 days later I have not heard a word. Thai is what you call a company that cares. NOT

I can understand the stock counter getting bogged down a bit to account for several simultaneous orders…but this many? No, no excuse! So, yes, I think compensation would be more than appropriate in this case…at least a coupon! 50% off nook? (OK, probably not 🙂 )

    I ordered one from Amazon which directed me to Onsale retailer. I got an e-mail after 3 days that my order has been canceled. I even bought a pouch for my touchpad in the hope of getting it. So disappointed!!! I hope I get one when HP releases more stock!!!

    Ordered mine from Staples & Barnes & Noble to have it cancelled the next day.

    I also stood in line at the best buy in fair oaks Mall in Fairfax Virginia Sunday Morning and was told they had 30 of them by a store employee to watch all the employees walk out with them in blue bags and with their uniforms on after an employee meeting and then the managers a male and female came out to tell us they were all gone because the employees were allowed to buy them.
    I waited in line for 3 hours, and the male manager said that’s it sorry people, I was number 2 in line. The thing that ticked me off is that the employees got them during an employee meeting and made no attempt to hide them when they came out of the store, they were all smiling and laughing at us.

  44. I ordered from BN. All was rosy until that email! I thought they’d have better stock management systems. So that it says out of stock when out of stock… The T&Cs say they have a right to refuse an order so I guess we can’t say anything against them… So it just leaves a bad after taste..

    But what really pissed me off was my friend who ordered after me got his Touchpad. How come that happened?

Is there anyway to lodge the complints officially as i feel cheated. Also called customer care and they advised me to write emailto management which i did but have not received any answers so far. dont know what to do next?

    I actually had one in my hands on Tuesday but Future Shop Canada decided to raise the price back to $399. Then they dropped it back down to $99 again on Wednesday. I have no idea what they were thinking…but needless to say someone else picked it up. I sent a complaint to Future Shop Canada, we will see what happens.

I ordered one from HP SMB store on Sunday August 21st and am under the impression from the call center that all orders before 4am Monday August 22nd will be filled with the new stock coming, that is possibly why they haven’t gotten any new stock yet for people to order. I believe that is what they are doing and that it is morally right to try and fill the orders they have rather then cancel the orders and put more for sale a couple of days later.

  50. Ordered mine through Barnes and Noble, received a confirmation email with NO mention that it could possibly be cancelled….waited and waited until BAM! No HP for me! It sucks because I passed on ordering elsewhere because I felt confirmed that I got mine from B&N. Compensation? Probably not…I just wanted the darn tablet. I really found it frustrating and the fact is, I won’t be buying from them again. It was crap the way they lead me on and if someone said the NOOK was on sale, I wouldn’t buy it just because it is a B&N thing. Where’s my HP Touchpad Barnes and Noble???!!!

They said they did not receive my order from Amazon until Monday at 5:27 pm.EST, almost 27 hours later. Called Amazon to find out why they did not place my oder for 27 hours and they stated it was because it was Sunday. What a bunch of rubish!!!!!!!!!!

    I still waiting for my touch pad, after Barnes and Nobles cancelled my order. they said they made a mistake. they just cancelled, i was expecting at least they put me in a waiting list for when they recieve more inventory. They did nothing, only cancel the order. i wont be buying from them againg ! no body should, after this kind of service.!

    Ordered mine from BN through Paypal. Pacific Time: Monday, August 22, 2011 2:01 AM. Got an email “Due to unexpected customer demand for this item…” Monday, August 22, 2011 5:04 PM. It’s impossible they can’t keep up with their items-on-hand. Do they use Tablets to do Stone-age computing? I thought I ordered very early. Sucks!

    As far as compensation-if the retailer took money & did not return it immediately, then maybe they should get a discount on another tablet. If they didn’t take money immediately, why should someone get compensated just because hundreds of thousands of people smelled blood in the water, and rushed out to try and get one. Especially if they have never owned a webOS device previously. If anything HP should have offered it to the webOS faithful first. Just because the price is cheap, why do you expect to benefit from it? You were not willing to purchase one at the original price just because it isn’t the all-mighty iOS, or the glorious Android. All of a sudden people realized that they can get a full featured tablet for the price of a generic piece-of-trash Android tablet and tried to get one. Just admit it, forgive the retailer, and go back to your lives-you tried, don’t hold it against them, they did their best with such an onslaught of orders, it crashed hundreds of servers.
    If you already bought accessories for it, find someone that has one and sell it to them, or sell it on ebay, they are going like hot cakes.
    This is coming from someone that has had a Palm Pre since it’s release date, I have embraced and loved the OS. I am very frustrated about all the whiners that know nothing about webOS, and just want to buy one due to the price.
