If you regularly hop on a train to get to your place of business, or perhaps for that day out to the beach, or a new town for a shopping spree, and own an Android device, you might like to know that there is now a new personalised real time planning tool for rail travellers available for the Android platform.

The app is called Rail Planner Live and is a new version of Thales’s popular system and this latest version offers the user live ticketing functionality right from their mobile phone and is the only Android app to deliver real time info, instant ticket sales, fare searching along with live train running info, updates on cancellations and delays, train times, live departure boards, a home page widget and SMS alerts.

The head of Thales UK’s transportation system business, Alistair McPhee says, “While working with National Rail Enquiries on Rail Planner Live, we noticed that most travellers visit the website prior to setting out on their journey. We realised there was an opportunity to provide travellers with the same kind of information they look for before they start their journey while they are on the move. Raileasy had the technology we needed to bring this to life.”

Rail Planner Live for Android has been designed with unique features to help make rail travel pleasurable and convenient as possible and also features a “Get Me Home” feature which located the most direct route back from anywhere in the United Kingdom.

The managing director of Raileasy, George Sikking says, “Raileasy’s application programming interface (API) allowed us to create a booking engine on a small mobile screen, whilst managing the backend requirements of the UK rail system. With Thales UK’s insight into the habits of rail travellers, we’ve be able to deliver an app that truly improves the experience for anyone travelling by train in the UK.”
