The new Android Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) operating system is what many smartphone owners are waiting for in the next update, we already know that HTC are still thinking about the future of Android 4.0 but they have not decided yet. It now looks like Sony Ericsson will upgrade its Xperia handsets to the new OS.

Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 OS will be making its way onto Sony Ericsson Xperia handsets in the near future according to SE’s Dutch Facebook page.

At the moment no release dates of when Xperia mobile phones will be getting the new ICS, but we will keep you posted. Engagdet contacted Sony Ericsson for confirmation and they received a reply that said that they are currently rolling out its new upgrade to Gingerbread 2.3.4 to all 2011 Xperia smartphone portfolio.

They also said “Beyond Gingerbread 2.3.4, we plan to upgrade our 2011 Xperia smartphone portfolio to the next Android platform made available to us.”

They will post all official announcements on its blog according to Sony Ericsson, as soon as this happens we will be right here letting you know all about them.
