You are probably aware that Research In Motion has been having somewhat of a hard time in the mobile space recently, losing market share hand over fist to rival devices such as the iPhone and Android, but RIM is attempting to fight back by changing their BlackBerry smartphones from the same old boring design previous devices have offered.

And today we get a first look at what those new BlackBerry smartphones look like as according to an article over on Ubergizmo by way of The Verge, an image has hit the net of a device that is being touted as the BlackBerry London.

As you can see by the picture, the BlackBerry London does indeed offer a completely new design for Research In Motion smartphones, and is said to run their new operating system BBX.

The word is the BlackBerry London packs an 8 megapixel rear facing camera along with a 2 megapixel front facing camera, 1GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, and a 1.5GHz TI OMAP dual core processor. The BlackBerry London is also said to be about the same size as the Samsung Galaxy S II and word has it the device is thinner than the iPhone 4.

Apparently the guys over at the Boy Genius Report have heard from a “trusted source,” and say the BlackBerry London is genuine and in fact replaces the BlackBerry Colt that has been scrapped and we can expect the BlackBerry London to see launch in the third quarter next year.

So there you have it an image of the first BlackBerry BBX smartphone, what do our readers think of this new BlackBerry design; will it be able to pull RIM back to their former glory in the mobile space?
