HP TouchPad & CyanogenMod 7.1 Android Alpha 3 update

The new CyanogenMod 7.1 Android Alpha 3 update has been released; this is the new build of Google Android for the HP TouchPad. RootzWiki has the all the updates from Alpha 1 up-to-date, this tablet PC as standard was released with webOS 3.0 software, but the world went crazy for an Android port.

The new CyanogenMod 7.1 Alpha 3 main features include: Last prominent form of “sleep of death” fixed, Bluetooth DPad/arrows do not rotate with screen, Webkit backing store (smoother scrolling), Minor improvements to 2D/3D performance in some apps, Serial# now populated, as well as Battery stats now available to Android, General wifi fixes, Possible fix for A2DP and wifi interference, Preliminary Touchpad 4G support (no radio), Shorter hostname as a result of serial#, Possible fix for SD card not mounting, Status bar should take less resources after an app goes full screen, and Camera FPS improved but still nearly non-functional.

Must remember that this is still at alpha stage, so is still not what you call perfect, but it is getting there. This new Alpha 3 bring s a few problems such as plugging in the headphones and then the tablet speaker shuts down, this sounds ok but you cannot hear audio in your headphones.

Anyway, please read the full article over at Liliputing and the full how to install the HP TouchPad CyanogenMod 7.1 Android Alpha 3 update. If you have tried it, please do let us know how it went.

i have it running on my.  For the most part it works pretty good.  Apps crashed a couple times in a48 hour period.  the browser locked up once.  And Skype isn’t working with the webcam yet.  Aside from that its been working pretty great.

When I restart, instead of getting a USB symbol on the Touchpad, the Windows computer wants a driver for QHSUSB_DLOAD.  There is no such driver anywhere.  I can’t get beyond that.

I found the problem.  After copying files to the Touchpad, and ejecting it programmatically, I had to physically disconnect the Touchpad from the computer (i.e., unplug the USB cable).  Then, I could restart the Touchpad while holding down the Volume Up button and successfully bring it to the USB icon.

I have installed Alpha 3 on my HP Touchpad. So far it works great! Most android apps work very well as well. This adds real value to the Touchpad investment!

I have two touchpads on cynaogenmod alpha3 and we are in love with them.  I have
not experienced other tablets much, but ours work great.  Much less seldom force
closes on apps in the new alpha.  I do have the headphones/speakers issue
sometimes, but long press netflix and all is well.  Netflix works great
otherwise.  I’ve been getting some nice 10 cent apps from the market and free
apps from amazon and I can’t even keep up with all of the wonderful uses.  I
think I had to hard reset once since I updated one day after alpha 3 released.
Prior to that I had to hard reset at least once a day.  Love the cynagenmod
folks.  Keep up the excellent work.

updated to apha 3.5 from 2.1 and noticed internal storage was low. Rather than delete some apps I moved a ton to SD card. Now I keep getting errors saying the SD card has been removed and I can’t access any apps there! Help! Do I delete sd card contents and download???? Not sure what or how to do.

I can’t access the android storage via usb from pc. I can’t mounted sd card.  “sd card damage” error message on notification bar.  USB driver installed and connected with USB unbugging enabled.  Clicked “turn on usb storage”, hourglass circle around 30 seconds, still no access.  Anyone successfully access the USB storage on the android partitions, please share your experience.  Thanks.
