Hot Apps: console gaming on iPad via OnLive app

Well now if you fancy getting some gaming action on your iPhone or Apple iPad, OnLive, the cloud gaming firm have now announced the release of their playable app for the iPhone and Apple iPad meaning you will be able to play such games as Assassins Creed Revelations, L.A. Noire and more.

According to an article over on MacRumours by way of Tech Crunch, the OnLive app for the Apple iPad should become available any time now and the OnLive app for the iPhone will release soon.

OnLive delivers console quality gaming to the Mac, TVs and PC and now mobile via remote streaming from their central servers and thus a client device needn’t be fast enough to render high-res graphics but just has to play back what is basically a video stream of a game whilst user controls are sent back to the server.

Apparently games can be played via the touch screen interface or via the mobile compatible Universal OnLive Wireless Controller that commands a price tag of $49.99, and games brought on one OnLive device can be played on another device with all save data remaining intact.

Oh and if you are one of the Android faithful out there that thinks once again you are missing out, there’s an OnLive app for Android coming out soon as well

We have a couple of demo videos for your viewing pleasure below, the first from the Tech Crunch guys demonstrating OnLive running on the iPad, and the other courtesy of Pocket Gamer showing Assassin’s Creed Revelations running on the Apple iPad 2 via OnLive, so don’t forget to mash those play buttons and check out the footage…enjoy.
