Samsung Galaxy Nexus Accessories: USB Vehicle Dock

So you have your Android Ice Cream Sandwich packing Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphone, so maybe you’d like an accessory for the handset this festive season, perhaps you are in the market for a Samsung Galaxy Nexus car dock, and if so we have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus vehicle dock for your consideration below.

According to the guys over at Engadget the Verizon Galaxy Nexus vehicle dock is a bit of a low-grade protective bracket for your Android 4.0 smartphone that sticks to your vehicle windscreen via a suction cup and commands an asking price of 40-bucks from Verizon Wireless.

The Verizon Galaxy Nexus vehicle dock delivers access to such things as maps, turn-by-turn navigation, music, contacts, hands-free calling and all whilst charging up your Galaxy Nexus.

However according to the guys, the GSM version of the vehicle dock comes with 3-pin contacts, along with micro-USB and mic ports built in unlike the US model and is available for £49.99 for the UK version from Amazon UK.

Thus it would appear that US Samsung Galaxy Nexus owners will have to plug and unplug their handset whilst over here in the UK there is no need, not sure why there is such a difference between the US and UK versions, as they are shaped similarly yet different internally, so looks like the UK has the best deal when it comes to vehicle docks for the Galaxy Nexus.

The LTE version of the phone has the pins, the car dock sold by VZW does not. Therefore the VZW GNex dock is a $40 piece of plastic that does nothing but hold your phone..

    2. *sigh* No, the article is right.  You’re wrong.  The Verizon dock doesn’t include a 3-pin connector for charging and doesn’t put the phone in “Car Mode”.  It’s just a hunk of plastic for which they’ll charge you $40.

And if you’re willing to shell out $40 for that, I’ll see you a lifetime supply of air for $100.

Don’t waste your money, I got one with the three pins as am in Ireland, and it worked as a proper dock, however it also caused my screen to crack due to the pressure required to get it in and out of the dock. Sent it straight back. Find a dock that you can use with your case on. These phones are flimsy… I miss my Nexus one 🙁
