As the Amazon Kindle Fire tablet seems to be doing rather well in the mobile space, obviously others are going to have a go at taking a slice of that action for themselves, and one such is Archos, who has now announced their first Android Honeycomb slate o hit the below $200 mark to challenge the Kindle Fire.

According to an article over on PC World, the new Android slate is the Archos 70b which will command a price tag of $199.99, so only just below that $200 mark, but apparently the Archos 70b tablet could be the best alternative to the Kindle Fire an other low priced slates because it does run the tablet orientated Android Honeycomb OS.

Like the Amazon Kindle Fire, the Archos 70b is a 7-inch slate and runs a stock version of Honeycomb whereas the Kindle Fire runs a modified Android 2.3 Gingerbread version and is limited on apps whilst the Archos 70b delivers full access to all apps in the Android Market.

When it comes to storage, both the Kindle Fire and Archos 70b have 8GB built in flash, however the Amazon tablet storage can’t be expanded whilst the Archos 70b features a microSD slot along with HDMI out.

Other specs the Archos 70b offer over the Amazon Kindle Fire are, double the built in memory with 1GB while the Kindle Fire has 512MB, a 1.2GHz processor as opposed to the Kindle Fire’s 1GHz processor, and the Archos 70b also has a higher screen resolution at 1024 x 600, the Fire has 800 x 480 pixels.

So there you have it, an Amazon Kindle Fire challenger that offers more than the Amazon slate for about the same price. Does the Archos 70b capture your attention, if so you should be able to purchase it when it arrives sometime in January.
