iPhone 4S outbound audio calls issue surfaces

With the iPhone 4 came the term “antennagate” due to the issues surrounding the antenna on the iOS smartphone, as I’m sure you all remember, and since Apple released the iPhone 4S this too has seen its fair share of issues such as the Sprint data speed problems and bad battery life issues that was more of an iOS 5 problem, but another issue has surfaced.

According to the guys over at iDownload Blog by way of GigaOM, many iPhone users are complaining on the Apple Support Forums an issue that has been dubbed “audiogate,” that affects outbound audio calls from the iPhone 4S.

The original complaint has sparked off a 109 page long thread on the forums, which states… “Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S — 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing. Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer.”

Word is there are a multitude of other iPhone users who are experiencing this same issue with the thread gaining some 1700 posts along with a massive 16000 pages views, and furthermore it would appear that it isn’t just the iPhone 4S with this “audiogate” problem as a few iPhone 4 users have also complained.

Some users have said that switching the speakerphone off and on temporarily sorts out the problem, but currently there doesn’t appear to be any real fix in the pipeline for this issue, and thus far Apple hasn’t commented on the problem.

Thus we’d like to ask our readers who own an iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S if you have been experiencing this “audiogate” problem with your handset and if so feel free to shout out to our comments area below.

There is no problem.  I’ve done everything those people have said they do in order to replicate the issue and it just doesn’t happen.  I am starting to believe that some people aren’t smart enough to operate a smart phone no matter how simple you make the device and software.

Are you crazy??? You say something which is widespread as a problem and confirmed by so many users is just because we all are ignorant?
You definately need to seek some help..

I have had my iPhone 4s 16gb for just two days and this issue has happened just now for the first time, witch led me to here via a google search. At least its not only me. I’m sure apple will fix the issue soon as they did with past issues on the 4/3GS etc.

I have same problem, don’t really moan about it, its technology and its never flawless.  Plus its more of a mobile internet communication device now, so less bothered about calls working properly.  I’m guessing they will fix it in iOS5.1, so I’m happy to patiently wait until then.

Got my iphone 4s a few weeks ago … yup, it’s a real problem.  Approx 10-30% of my outbound calls do go through (i.e., there is no audio when the other person picks up).

When I got my first iPhone 4, every call had an audio issue; nobody could hear me at all.
Fortunately, this handset (My 2nd) does not seem to suffer from this audio problem, but the battery life is still not brillIant.
I do wish that Apple would produce a flash player equivalent, so I could play all my Facebook games (I currently have a few of them as IOS app’s from the app store, but that’s all; I do have lots of games though, so not that bothered. Could do with more storage though, say, about a terra byte, lol).

My phone gives feedback through the earpiece when the audio is going to fail.  I hang up and dial again.  This can happen 2-4 times.  It fails about 1 in 7 calls.

Got a 4s for Christmas and started having the problem within a week. An Apple support supervisor acted like he didn’t know what was wrong and told me to exchange it again. Problem resurfaced immediately so I called the support supervisor who said I could exchange it again. It then occurred to me that maybe the problem was Bluetooth so I disabled it to see if that solved the problem. All was well for about 5 days when it started again. Cripes! I guess I’ll go to the Apple store and hope for better luck on the 3rd phone. I feel better now knowing I’m not the only one with this issue..

have this issue with my iphone 4S, but not my iphone 4.  it’s definitely a problem.  don’t know if I should return it or not, but it does suck.

I must be the most unlucky iPhone user because I have both iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S and the audiogate happens on both of them. People are making fun of me, they tell me to go buy a better phone. Yeah..
