HP TouchPad sale: want one for Android?

The HP TouchPad is a sought after tablet, it is mainly Android users that are looking for this device, because with just webOS on it you might as well say it is a paperweight. Remember back when we talked about the new HP TouchPad CM9 ICS 4.0 and its Alpha 0 walkthrough? This is what makes this tablet more appealing.

Woot.com is selling the HP TouchPad 9.7-inch 32GB Wi-Fi tablet for only $219.99, it is a refurbished model, but nether the less you know how hard it is to buy one of these what was first thought to be dead in the water devices.

Main Features Include: 9.7-inch diagonal LED-backlit multitouch display, comes with IPS wide viewing-angle, HP webOS, listen to music thanks to Beats Audio, face-to-face chats using the integrated webcam and digital microphone, HP Synergy allows you to sync contacts, calendars, messages, photos, and email automatically from Google, Facebook etc, and much more.

In the box: HP TouchPad, microUSB Sync Cable, Getting Started Guide, AC Charger and Navigation Guide.

Calling the HP Touchpad a ‘paperweight’ is a lazy remark from a journalist who has clearly never used WebOS.  I’ve been using a WebOS/Android dual-boot Touchpad for several months now and using WebOS is by far the better experience on a tablet.

As for ‘dead in the water’, HP have just issued a software update and a timetable for open source development of the platform.

If you want a tablet for sit-back browsing, email, social networking and the occasional video (i.e. 90% of all users) then the Touchpad still represents the best value-for-money option.

WebOS offered a better tablet experience compared to CM7. But CM9 changes everything completely. ICS on the touchpad is outstanding.

Unlike CM7 – CM9 has a very natural layout thats ideal for a tablet i.e. fracture/panels. Also pretty much all honeycomb tablet optimised apps i.e. QuickOffice HD work really well on CM9.
