Motorola Droid Razr & Maxx 6.12.173 update, full changelog

In the coming days Motorola will release the 6.12.173 update for the Motorola Droid RAZR and Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX, albeit to soak test members only, but Motorola has now released the full changelog for the 6.12.173 update, and said list slightly differs from the one released by Verizon a few days ago.

According to the guys over at Droid-life, the full 6.12.173 update changelog delivers more details on such stuff as camera enhancements, the new MotoCast and battery life increases, and it seems somewhat strange that both companies should view pieces of the update as more important than others and deliver different lists.

Anyway, here’s that full 6.12.173 changelog for the Motorola Droid RAZR and MAXX…

MotoCast adds a new auto-upload feature for videos and image sending to your computer, along with improved installation steps, new features added to Enterprise such as password-enabled Encryption Key Protection, email sorting enhancements, Cisco and Juniper SSL VPN support and simplified corporate email set-up.

The update ads a new Smart Actions trigger, battery life increase overall, improved data throughput performance in low 4G signal environments, improved data connectivity stability when Airplane mode is disabled.

There are improvements to the camera performance and enhancements to the UI, improved mobile hotspot security, updated permissions to enable other devices to connect to all Internet sites, the addition of V Cast app, updated VZ Navigator along with the latest 3D map improvements, updated Google apps including Google videos and new version of Music to Talk.

Improvements to Voicemail, resolving an issued so massages can be marked as read, updated to allow subscription or unsubscription over WiFi, pressing back key after playback issue now eliminated, and improved message playback to resume when audio switches to speaker.

Improvements to the User Interface are an updated email icon, new icon graphics on home screen and app tray, and improved home screen stability when moving through home screens. There is also an updated favourite contacts widget, updated multimedia ringtones to permit saving and fixes the issue of showing the remaining download time during an OTA update.

So there you have it the full changelog for the 6.12.173 update for the Motorola Droid RAZR and Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx.

Just get ICS already, 173 is a big improvement, it runs well, has a bigger than stated impact on standby battery use, and really seems to solve data connectivity issues. It’s a far cry from what everyone on any form of razr wants, which is ICS and an unlocked bootloader, it is nice for now, but so far motorola has stumbled out of the gate with a very impressive phone that is being hampered by an overcontrolled  bootloader. This phone has been terribly unfriendly to the developer community and the developer edition was viewed by most as a slap in the face rather than the answer to the problem, since most of the people who would have considered the phone a viable option were already invested in a previous edition and the developer edition wasn’t suported or offered by carriers meaning you would pay the full $600+ pricetag out of your own pocket. Motorola has dropped the ball on what would have been the a top 3 option.

The Droid razor is a piece of crap.. I “upgraded” to this thing at the end of December… I’m on my forth one. The third one I had, the inner screen shattered on it while I was carrying it in my front pocket. Rugged???? I think not. I’m stuck with this piece of junk now, Verizon refuses to give me a diffe
rent model of phone. Think long and hard before you downgrade to this device.
