Every now and then we like to bring you news of an interesting infographic and today’s is State of the Desktop Apps, which takes an annual look at the Windows apps market. Data from 3 million Allmyapps users has been gathered and the information compiled in this infographic.

Although it often seems that everybody is talking about iOS and Android apps, Windows apps are also popular and it appears that Allmyapps 3 million users have now downloaded Windows apps more than 20 million times from almost 16,000 now available. There’s plenty of interesting information shown on the infographic such as the fact that Chrome is the top web browser followed by Firefox and then Opera.

Other details shown are that utilities are the top category for apps with video apps in second place followed by free games in third and the average user has downloaded 16 apps. The user base for Allmyapps is far-flung and most users at present are in India with the U.S.A. not far behind. Taking a look at the top apps in some of the various category sections informs us that for anti-virus apps AVG takes prime position beating Avast and Avira. Picasa is the top imaging app with Skype first for communications and iTunes for audio.

Allmyapps CEO Thibauld Favre made this point about the growing market for Windows PC apps. He said, “We have seen a steady growth over the past 12 months — from just under three million app installations a year ago, to the 20 million you see today. In a world where the Mac and iOS seem to be the talk of the town — our growth proves that Windows app interest is high, and PCs are still a force to be reckoned with.”
