Huawei Ascend G 300 UK Pre-order on Vodafone

Android fans are being treated to a number of new high spec smartphones in recent months, but not everyone can afford the latest high end devices. Luckily the Android platform has long had more affordable handsets that still feature some impressive features. Today we can tell you about the Huawei Ascend G 300 that has gone up for pre-order interest on Vodafone in the UK.

Huawei may not be the most well known brand with regards to smartphones but the company is looking to change that. The company has just announced a new agreement with UK carrier Vodafone, and is promising the Huawei Ascend G 300 will provide unmatched functionality and power for a device of its type.

Spec wise the G 300 is no slouch as it comes packing a 1GHz processor running the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, and could eventually be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich. This is combined with a nice 4-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen with a five megapixel camera, which also has a flash and autofocus with 4x digital zoom. The upcoming handset also has 2GB of on-board storage, and a respectable 1500 mAh battery.

Just like HTC and Samsung Android devices the Huawei Ascend G 300 will come running its own Android overlay, which is promised to provide fast access to dedicated applications from the unlock screen in one quick step. There will also be a special suite of widgets for entertainment, social networking and other functions for organizing the device.

This agreement with Huawei and Vodafone UK will lead to a number of other product launches in the coming months. Mark Mitchinson of Huawei UK said that the agreement “is a landmark deal for Huawei” and the company will continue to reveal a range of exciting smartphones for consumers.

Meanwhile Vodafone’s Dee Kaul said that the two companies have worked closely together “for several years”, to provide customers a range of Vodafone branded devices. Currently the pricing for the handset hasn’t been revealed but SIM free it could be available around the £200 to £250 mark, and is set to be released during the spring in ‘luxury silver’.

Vodafone have said they will release more details about pricing and release date in the coming weeks and customers can sign up for updates here. Below we have uploaded an early hands-on video of the device for you to have a look at. Are you in the market for a more affordable Android handset?
