Anticipating Galaxy S3 price, what will you pay?

The Samsung Galaxy S3 (S III) is a highly awaited smartphone that has a lot of people talking, especially following the success of last year’s Galaxy S2. Today we’re anticipating what the Galaxy S3 price may be and want to ask our readers how much they are willing to pay for the next Samsung flagship handset.

With a Galaxy S3 unveiling expected this month and a possible release in April it’s time to think about how much Samsung will be charging for the Galaxy S3, particularly considering how many new specs and features have been reported. Although nothing is actually confirmed yet it’s widely expected that the Galaxy S3 will feature an Exynos 1.5GHz quad-core processor, a step up from the dual-core chip of the Galaxy S2. Other expected additions are a larger 4.8-inch HD display, 8, 10 or even 12-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera and LTE connectivity. It should all be running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the very latest Android mobile OS and could have 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory.

If most of these specs turn out to be correct then this will be many people’s dream smartphone but will people expect Samsung to be able to provide such goodies for the same price as the Galaxy S2. There are plenty of people who loved the S2 so much that they have already decided to upgrade to the S3 when it arrives, almost regardless of price, so sales of the S3 already seem assured. However if Samsung could combine premium specs with a reasonable price its success could be even greater than that of the Galaxy S2.

When the Galaxy S2 finally made its way to AT&T last year it was priced at $549 without contract or $199 with a new two-year contract. That was a reasonable price but with many higher-grade smartphones now coming out at around the $299 mark, it seems likely to us that Samsung will have to raise the price for this year’s Galaxy S3. The Samsung Galaxy Note has just been released on AT&T for $299 for example and that has a dual-core processor rather than the quad-core expected for the Galaxy S3. However it does have a whopping 5.3-inch display, larger than that on the Galaxy S3.

Although it’s not impossible to maintain pricing for higher-level specs on new models (take a look at the Apple iPhone 4S and iPad 2 for example, which were the same prices as their predecessors) we’d say it’s a lot to expect that the sheer amount of upgrades anticipated for the Galaxy S3 means it could sell at the same price of the S2. However of course if it’s not quite as high-level as we all expect then we might see the same pricing.

What we’d like to know from you though is how much are you prepared to pay for a Galaxy S3 with all the upgrades you’re hoping for? Would you rather forego some cutting-edge specs to be able to purchase the S3 for the same as the S2? Maybe you’d much rather see an all-singing, all-dancing S3 and pay more, but if so, how much more? Send your comments so we can get a consensus of what you are willing to pay for the Samsung Galaxy S3.

$500 for original version non-contract with dumb carriers! That’s how i got my SGII. Still contract free, Development always sooner than US version and w/o the 4 ugly softkeys.

I think around £150 With a two year contract or £500 non contract would be reasonable. Otherwise i’ll keep my s2 which cost me nothing up front on a £25 a month contract.

They should make it under $400 so that more companies can have it like
Metropcs because I would really like to not miss out on the galaxy s3 like I have with the s2 any ways it will sell more if all the major companies have it not just a few
