AT&T’s Nokia Lumia 900 postponement of release to April 22

The Nokia 900 smartphone has gathered a lot of attention since being shown off at MWC and the Nokia flagship looks as though it will be pretty popular, especially with those who like something a little bit different. It was due for release on AT&T in the U.S. on March 18 but today we have news of a postponement and a new release date.

The Lumia 900, a Windows Phone 7.5 Mango handset will be globally available and is a real step up for Nokia to make new inroads into the smartphone market. Although a release date had been set for an AT&T release on March 18 it seems that gaining the necessary technical acceptance took a little longer than expected, therefore pushing the release date back to April 22. Although this will be a blow to some potential buyers, this is a very nice looking device that looks worth the wait and could generate a new interest in Windows Phone devices.

The delay news comes to us from BGR citing a “trusted source” who said the Lumia 900 will be available online and in stores on April 22. The price is also a big bonus as it will apparently be only $99.99 at AT&T on the usual two-year contract, which we think is more than reasonable. A reminder of specs is that the Lumia 900 has a 4.3-inch WVGA AMOLED ClearBlack touch display, a 1.4GHz Scorpion processor, 512MB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Other features that make this handset desirable include an 8-megapixel rear camera with 720p video capture, Carl Zeiss optics, Auto Focus and dual LED flash along with a 1-megapixel front-facing shooter and there’s LTE connectivity for the AT&T network.

If you’d like a closer look at the Nokia Lumia 900 then take a look at the video below our story or the Nokia website here has plenty of information with an overview, full specs and more. Are you already planning to snap up the Nokia Lumia 900 on AT&T? What is it that’s attracted you to this smartphone and are you willing to wait a few more weeks for it to launch? So I stopped at the Tysons Corner Microsoft Store today. Apparently a Nokia rep stopped by yesterday to tell the store employees that the Lumia 900 was almost certainly coming out in April (no firm commitment, but a high expectation that it will). I’m bummed, but I also got to play with the Lumia 800 they had on display, and let me tell you, the build quality of it made the other Microsoft Phones look and feel like crap.

Dang–I have to wait 1 more month before I get this phone!  Based on the previews it sounds like it’s going to be worth the wait.
