Motorola devices Android ICS update latest

Today we have the latest Android 4.0 ICS update information for Motorola devices region-by-region and also with expected times. Since the Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphone launched with the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system late last year, many other Android device owners have been waiting to hear when they too might enjoy the benefits of 4.0 ICS so read on for more.

We’ve been giving readers details on ICS updates as we hear them and recently for U.S. readers listed 14 Verizon devices that are confirmed for the update, including some Motorola products. This latest information though comes from Motorola direct and includes regions and countries around the world and what stage the ICS update is at for each device and each region. It also lists devices that won’t be getting ICS update, unfortunately for some.

Motorola has included a useful image showing the stages of development for delivering ICS. It begins with Phase 1 — Evaluation and Planning, moves on to Phase 2 — Development, Phase 3 — Testing and then Phase 4, which means it is now available. There is also further information about what is involved for each stage. The various tables then list all the devices, those with 1GB of RAM or more first and those with 512MB of RAM next. Devices are shown and then the regions, followed by the current stage of development and the expected time when the update will be available. Following these initial charts there are then further charts, which list region-by-region, stages and timescales.

You can check out the information at this Motorola link and just some of the tablets and smartphones concerned include the Motorola Xoom, Xyboard, Droid Razr and Droid Razr Maxx, Atrix and Atrix 4G, Droid Bionic and Droid 4. There’s some rather disconcerting news for Droid Razr owners in the U.S. though. While this device is listed as being in ‘Phase 2 Development’ for other regions including Asia, Pacific, Canada, Europe, Latin America and Japan with rollouts due to arrive in Q2, the Droid Razr is only in ‘Phase 1 Evaluation and Planning’ for the US with no date available, as pointed out here.

If you have a Motorola device, is yours on the update list for your region? Are you pleased that ICS is on its way to you soon, or one of those who will be disappointed at how long it will take? Maybe your device is not one that will receive the ICS update at all?

Kudos to Motorola for communicating their path to Android updates.  It would be great if Samsung, HTC & others could pay the same respect to their consumers, agreed?
