Virgin Mobile PCD Venture for first-time Android buyer

If you’re in the market for an affordable smartphone and want to try out the Android platform then a good option for you is now available to order through Virgin Mobile. The PCD Venture runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, so it’s not the latest Android ICS operating system, but then the price is only $99 with no contract and that seems more than reasonable.

It’s a pretty basic phone as you’d expect for that price but certainly suitable for many people’s needs. Some of the specs and features include a 600MHz processor, 2.8-inch touchscreen display, QWERTY keyboard, 512MB of RAM, microSD slot for cards (2GB card included with support of up to 32GB) and a 2-megapixel camera with LED flash and video capture. Okay, so the specs are nothing to blow you away but the PCD Venture is aimed at those in the market that just require a straightforward phone that does the job.

The PCD Venture also comes with 3G connectivity and the usual GPS, WiFi and Bluetooth 3.0 as well as support for Virgin Mobile ID Packs, as reported here. It’s due to release on March 15, that’s today, so if this sounds like the just the handset you need then head to Virgin Mobile. A Beyond Talk data plan from Virgin Mobile costs $35 monthly which will give you 300 voice minutes and unlimited data and messaging. For $45 monthly you’ll get 1,200 voice minutes with unlimited data and messaging or for $55 you’ll receive unlimited voice minutes as well as unlimited data and messaging. You can see the press release from Virgin at this article.

Other things that you may want to know about are a battery talk time of around 4 hours, standby time of 12 .5 days and the weight of the PCD Venture, which is 4.30 oz. Dimensions are 4.7-inches x 2.3-inches x 0.49-inches. To find out more about the Venture or to order, head to Virgin Mobile here. Could you be tempted by the PCD Venture on Virgin Mobile? What do you think of the pricing?

Also it wont play through the car speakers on aux cable> it will connect blue tooth. The phone works but audio does not work, Car audio connects but fails when you select the phone

This phone is great at first. After 2 weeks my screen went black and the only way to reset it was to take the battery out. The only place I can receive internet service is at my house. Very slow response. NO ONE MAKES A COVER/CASE FOR THIS PHONE. I should have listen to all the reviews that I read about this phone, but instead I allowed the best buy sales person talk me into this phone.  Not happy on my purchase. DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!!!
