Nokia N9 Android 4.0.3 Alpha ROM aka Project Mayhem

Nokia in their infinite wisdom, as we all know, opted to go with Windows Phone rather than Android for their newest smartphones such as the Nokia Lumia 800 and so on, and whether Windows Phone proves to be a maker or breaker for Nokia remains to be seen as they are still in the early stages of delivering new devices.

However, if you were one of the Android faithful that was hoping Nokia would adopt Android over Windows Phone, according to the guys over at Pocket Now and by way of the NitDroid forum, you should keep an eye on what is called Project Mayhem.

What is Project Mayhem? Well apparently it is the closest it gets to having Android Ice Cream Sandwich on the Nokia N9, and apparently is an Android 4.0.3 Alpha 1 ROM that allows you to dual boot so the user can pick between platforms at start up.

There are quite a few things working with the Android 4.0.3 Alpha 1 ROM including, the touch screen, dual boot kernel, 3D drivers, OpenGL, volume and power buttons, Bluetooth, accelerometer, USB networking, and much more, along with instructions on how to install Project Mayhem, which you can find on the NitDroid forum.

And we have a little demo video of Android 4.0.3 (ICS) Alpha release #1 running on the Nokia N9 handset for your viewing consideration below, so head on down and mash that play button to check out Android on the Nokia N9…enjoy.
