Verizon Wireless Samsung Droid Charge FP1 update: Changelog
Samsung released its Droid Charge almost a year ago now and late last year owners of the device were treated to the Android Gingerbread update, and today we have news of the Verizon Wireless Samsung Droid Charge FP1 update.
The carrier has revealed it will begin rolling out a system update for the device, which before you get excited is not Android ICS. The latest update will add the same diagnostics tool that Verizon recently made available to the LG Revolution, which will allow Verizon support staff to remotely access a customer’s device when trouble shooting.
This update will also fix a number of bugs along with enhancing the handsets performance, and users will be notified once the software update is ready for their handset. Users are advised to download the update when it is available, and brings with it a number of features.
These include a new user interface, wireless alerting system, USB tethering when in Wi-Fi mode, simpler data activity view with the Wi-Fi icon located in the status bar, no longer lose data connectivity when the USB cable is connected or disconnected, calls can be completed without experiencing audio issues, and users will no longer receive a promotional notification popup when using Mobile Hotspot.
Other changes include VZ Navigator has been updated to version 7.5.1.52, updated Google Books, Market, and Gmail applications. The software update now protects the device from losing data caused by some third party applications, and the Desk-dock crash issue has also been addressed.
The default Internet browser is now Google.com and the system update file size is 85 MB, which should only take between one and two minutes to download and the same time to install it to the handset. For more information including instructions on how to download the update click here.

USB tethering is now BLOCKED while in Wi-Fi mode post-update; you have it listed here incorrectly as being a “new feature”. Â Just FYI!
to me what it looks like with this update and the UI tweaks is that samsung is trying to throw out the TouchWiz UI to hopefully usher in the new android 4.0! ~ hopeful thinking!
So yea, I’ve never had any problems with the phone itself except for the occasional freeze, but this new UI is not as visually appealing. The UI now looks like every other phone and has done away with the multi wallpaper thingy, in that when I scroll through my home screens the wall paper does not move with the motion. The app pages have done away with the colored blocks and now only display the icon with crappy title under it. Yes, our phones still have The Cleavland Browns colorscheme, I would root my phone but being that selling phones is my job I don’t like showing a customer about phones that are not what there getting straight out of the box. ok that was my rant for the day…I guess at this rate we will get ICS at the end of our 2 year contract anyway. Still love this under rated phone for its time. This update was like a step backwards.
I was hoping that the upgrade to VZ Navigator would fix the “Searching for GPS” problem but even after this “upgrade” my phone can take as long a 30 minutes to lock a signal. From what I’ve read, it seems that this is a common problem with this phone. Is everyone else experiencing this or is my phone just defective?
How do I get a screen back from sleeping when I am on a phone call. Seems really troublesome to have it sleep and then not awaken when the screen is touched or volume adjusted (which worked before the upgrade)
