Android ICS climbing, Gingerbread users still dominant

No doubt if you are one of the Android faithful out there that doesn’t own an ICS handset you are waiting patiently to be updated to Android Ice Cream Sandwich; however fear not because you are not alone in your wait, not by any means, as the Android space is still dominated by users that are currently running Android 2.3 Gingerbread rather than ICS.

According to the guys over at Engadget, by way of Android Developers, there has been a little growth in the percentage of Android devices that are now running Android Ice Cream Sandwich hitting 2.9 percent of Android devices, which was probably due to the HTC Sensation and Samsung Galaxy S2 ranges receiving the ICS update, but that still more than the 1.6 percent of the previous month.

However it still appears that the majority of Android devices out there are playing along with Android 2.3 Gingerbread with a whopping 63.7 percent of Android devices running that flavour operating system that have hit up Google Play within the last 2-weeks.

At roughly the same time the previous year, Android 2.2 Froyo was the dominant operating system with Android 2.3 Gingerbread sitting at only one percent whilst Android 3.0 Honeycomb was so low it hardly registered at all.

Thus it would seem that there is quite a long haul to see the majority of Android devices leaving Gingerbread behind in favour of Android Ice Cream Sandwich, but no doubt if you are waiting your device will hopefully see an update to Android 4.0 at some point in the not too distant further unless of course you are one of the unlucky ones what wont see that update arrive.

So we’d like to hear from our Android toting readers as to which Android OS they are currently running, are you playing with Gingerbread or are you now playing nice with ICS?
