HTC Golf phone may not score a birdie

Word is old HTC is gearing up to deliver yet another new smartphone packing Android Ice Cream Sandwich, a device that is set to be an enter-level handset and sits below HTC’s One series of devices, and that new HTC handset carries a codename of the HTC Golf, but apparently could surface as the HTC Wildfire C.

The guys over at Pocket Now have come up with the first press shot of the HTC Golf, or HTC Wildfire C, along with some specifications for the new entry-level Android handset, which is expected to become available sometime before this quarter is out.

Those HTC Golf specs include a 3.5-inch touch screen along with a five megapixel rear facing camera, and a front facing camera, which the guys say is a bit of a rarity on devices that carry a price point the Golf is expected to command, a sub-GHz single core processor of some description, Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi, 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage, Beats Audio and of course Android Ice Cream Sandwich running the show along with HTC Sense 4.0, and microSD expansion.

The guys do say that to supplement that 4GB of internal storage, the HTC Golf will have the same complimentary two-years of free 25GB Dropbox storage that comes with the HTC One X, HTC One S and HTC One V.

Perhaps the HTC Golf might not score a birdie with those that love high-end Android smartphones, but at least it brings a flavour of ICS to those that opt for entry-level devices. Obviously no hard and fast word on when the Golf will come out to play or what the handset will hit the pocket for, but as soon as we hear more, we will of course pass it along.
