Snapdragon S4 vs Tegra 3 on HTC One X video

One of the new smartphones that has attracted the most attention recently is the HTC One X. This flagship Android handset has already been released in some regions and is headed to AT&T in the U.S. for a May 6 release. Regular readers will already know that two different processors are being used and now we have news of a video look at these processors, the Snapdragon S4 vs. the Tegra 3 up against each other.

A key feature of the HTC One X and one of its major selling points is the NVIDIA 1.5 GHz quad-core Tegra 3 processor. This caused huge excitement and anticipation from many consumers who couldn’t wait to get their hands on a quad-core device and there was some disappointment when those in the US learned that the AT&T LTE variant of the HTC One X would not be quad-core. Instead it has the Snapdragon S4 1.5GHz dual-core processor, although this is certainly nothing to sniff at.

Since then there has been a lot of debate over which of these processors would offer the best performance for the HTC One X, with many assuming that the quad-core chip would win out. Many benchmarks have already been offered up and while some do put the Tegra 3 quad-core ahead, some have rated the Snapdragon S4 as superior. Today’s new video look was brought to our attention by Droid-Life and you can view the video that we’ve embedded below our story. This five-minute video clearly seems to put the Tegra 3 top once again and shows both device variants head-to-head.

The test concentrates on boot-up times and also an AnTuTu benchmark and it’s noted that at one point the device using the Tegra 3 processor during the bootup is left for a few seconds at the lock screen before unlock, yet still beats the Snapdragon S4 device. In fact the speed and power of the Tegra 3 sees it finish bootup around 30 seconds faster and with a score nearly twice that of the Snapdragon S4.

Of course we have to point out that this is an unofficial look at the variants and we cannot verify the setup. As we said earlier, other tests have come up with differing results so quite how much we take these tests into account is questionable. Nevertheless we feel that many of our readers will find this interesting viewing and we imagine this won’t be the last comparison we see between these two processors. What will be really interesting is to see how the Snapdragon S4 and Tegra 3 compare with the Exynos 4 Quad 1.4GHz quad-core processor, that has been confirmed today for the Samsung Galaxy S3. Now that should be intriguing stuff.

Take a look at the video below of the Tegra 3 quad-core HTC One X up against the Snapdragon S4 dual-core variant and tell us what you think? Would you assume the quad-core processor must be better as seems to be shown here or are you waiting for a more in-depth and rounded look? Are you waiting for the AT&T HTC One X?
